Synthesizers!
I did a project in college that involved adding up some waveforms to make a synthesizer with a particular sound. It was cool, but also a very long time ago (I don't remember the name of the software I used, but it was on classic MacOS) and to the extent there was once code, it's gone now. I'd like t...

Re: Lilypond error: 'Expecting duration, found "4."'
Turns out it wanted {4} instead of #"4" . Yay for bugs in documentation. It looks like you were using version 2.22 of lilypond, but version 2.20 of the docs. Maybe that's where the disconnect came from? Hey, you're right. If I look at the right version of the docs, it tells me to do the r...

Lilypond error: 'Expecting duration, found "4."'
I'm running Lilypond 2.22.0, and I have a section that goes from 4/4 to 12/8 but keeps the tempo the same. Here's some minimal example source: \version "2.22.0" { \tempo 4 = 120 \time 4/4 c'4 c' c' c' | \time 12/8 \tempo \markup { \concat { ( \note #"4." #UP " = " \note...

Re: Unexpectedly high xruns with modern hardware
Well, it turns out my video drivers are incompatible with realtime kernels, and I use this system for gaming. So instead of coming up with some dual boot hackery, I dusted off an old mac mini that's been lying around unused for at least 5 years, installed Debian with 5.10.0-6-rt-amd64, kxtools, plug...

Re: Unexpectedly high xruns with modern hardware
Ahah, for some reason I had assumed that realtime stuff had crept into the stock Debian kernel when I wasn't paying attention. Thanks for the pointer to RealtimeConfigQuickScan. I'll let you know how it works out.

Hi! I've been a drummer for about 30 years and a Linux user for about 20 (Debian), and only very recently have decided to combine those two things. I came here looking for some configuration advice (see https://linuxmusicians.com/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=23192 ) but the community seems pretty nice s...

Unexpectedly high xruns with modern hardware
I've got an i5-9600KF CPU @ 3.70GHz (6 cores) with an M-Audio M-track solo interface that shows up in lsusb as "Texas Instruments PCM2900C Audio CODEC." I'm running at a sample rate of 48,000/second. When I set JACK's buffer size to 128 bytes, I start seeing several underruns per second. I...
