Re: dspMixFX / Steinberg
It's not exactly convenient to fire up a Windows VM to adjust settings but it's more convenient than a second computer and recabling. Yes, I tried and it "works". However, my Linux does not like if I redirect the USB port to a VM. Most of the time it refuses to adopt it again correctly, w...

Re: dspMixFX / Steinberg
The Linux software for controlling the 4th Gen 4i4 is working perfectly for me. Arbitrary mixing and routing between the physical and USB inputs and outputs. So that sounds promising. :D Meanwhile I tried again with WINE and now at least the software starts up. But it dos not find the interface. It...

Re: dspMixFX / Steinberg
Did you try alsamixer or qasmixer? Maybe you are lucky and the interface exposes its mixer via ALSA. Yes. Both show plain nothing: "This device has no controls". When I select the onboard sound chip, it is filled with sliders. :? I just do not know whether this is to be expected as "...

dspMixFX / Steinberg
Hi folks, some years ago I bought the Steinberg UR242 which I do like very much. But back then I was on Windows only and did not care about other options. Meanwhile I'm all Ubuntu Linux and I find it very annoying that a good part of the interface function is accessible only by software and carefull...

Re: Carla Patchbay - interface and port naming
Thanks for all your support. I do believe in the past it was possible to identify and name the devices (and connectors?) but I may just have wished for that. It's possible to re-name ports in QjackCtl. So probably I just confused Carla with QjackCtrl. I just frired it up and guess what - the devices...

Carla Patchbay - interface and port naming
Hi, it' now a couple of months since I finally switched to Linux for my Desktop. Meanwhile I mostly find my way around. Since we lately had the chance to play a concert with our orchestra, just before everything got locked again, I had the need to take a closer look on my audio configuration again t...

Re: I will take the plunge
Wow! That is great help! I have been on some Linux boards before where I got friendly hints to first learn all the basics before molesting the geeks with trivial stuff as you learn most if you discover it yourself. Sort of. Not exactly this words. But you know when you are told to just RTFM, even if...

Re: JACK is Hannibal Lector with an ear fetish
If you're a musician who has done any pro music production on Windows/Apple, and you're now trying out Linux, and you just can't understand why you're having so much trouble getting even the most simple use of sound working on Linux... It's not you. It's JACK. Woah! Seems I triggered some discussio...

I will take the plunge
Hi everyone, last Christmas I finally dumped my trusty, 9+ year old PC in favor of a brand new, (almost) top notch power engine that probably will stay with me for the next decade. And together with this major upgrade I once again tried to switch tracks and bet my future on Linux instead of Windows....
