Re: Audio Cards that work with Linux. Recommendations?

Well, the 404HD has a master out which is basically a stereo mix down L/R then it also has 4 individual outputs that can be assigned as you like. How you route the audio where you want will depend on the software you are using and the audio server be it Jack, Pipewire, etc. So, yes you can do a 2.1 ...

It should not be necessary to remove Pipewire just disable the service so it doesn't run.

Re: Focusrite Scarlett Gen 1 Control Panel GUI

I just plugged it into USB and it works. Alsamixer shows no controls. Don't know if that means anything. All control is available with knobs and switches on the unit.

Re: Wireplumber realtme problem and Realtime tweaks for Pro Audio

I just added the Pipewire PPA. You can install latest version and try it out easily and also uninstall and go back to Pulse easily. I wouldn't install a whole different distribution so I could test Pipewire. On my regular desktop machine it seems fine and I quite like it actually.

Re: Wireplumber realtme problem and Realtime tweaks for Pro Audio

The configuration files for all these are independent so having other sound servers installed should matter not. The default configuration for Pipewire could vary by distro but will be the same if installed initially or later on.

Re: Wireplumber realtme problem and Realtime tweaks for Pro Audio

I'm now running the latest Pipewire on my Ham Radio computer and I can run the SDR software which is Pulse as well as Carla which is Jack to add multi band compressor for microphone. Latency is acceptable and qpwgraph makes routing easy. I can not get the latency low enough to play live with guitari...

Re: Change to Linux - "ILok", "eLicenser" USB pens.

As long as you just want to keep your old stuff going I would say just unplug from the network and don't worry about it. I've been around slightly longer than you but I've always been on Linux so I've never had to deal with this type of situation. I don't personally care for using wine or windows au...

Re: Continuing the jack/pipewire debate...

Well, I never expected Pipewire would replace Jack. I always assumed one would just continue using Jack for low latency audio and let Pipewire replace pulse. If it's possible for Pipewire to equal Jack's performance that would be fine. I have recently installed Pipewire on a machine I use for ham ra...

Re: Asus XONAR 1/4" jack replacement

I might try fitting a db9 connector in place and then build a separate breakout box to mount your audio connection jacks. Connect from the card to the box with a serial cable. This way you can use any audio jack even a combo jack.

Re: Are all Creative-Labs SB cards Linux compatible now?

I don't think you will be happy with Creative Labs either. There are lots of decent quality USB devices if that will work for you. I can't think of any decent quality cards that are not quite expensive. My favorite low budget soundcard to date is my M-Audio Delta 66. If you have a PCI slot and can f...

Re: Is there a clean and easy way to add tube effects to pipewire?

Main problem with Guitarix for you is that the main tube simulation is mono. It doesn't turn stereo until the effects rack.

So Carla and you might try one of Airwindows Tube plugins or ToneLib Tube Warmth.

Re: The simplest/cleanest non-USB guitar audio-interface?

You need to know the impedance and input level of that jack on your sound card. You probably need impedance matching and possibly pre amp if the input is for line level. I use a Behringer USB interface. It has a switch on the 1/4" input to change it to high Z guitar input. I use Guitarix for am...
