Re: The Printk Blocker For Upstreaming Real-Time "PREEMPT_RT" Has Been Merged

I believe I saw fewer xruns with smaller buffers when running a realtime kernel. That said, I never liked booting into different kernels just to record. It's nice to run your distribution's kernel and start recording when the mood strikes, with as few delays or reboots as possible. I haven't used a ...

Re: PiPedal/TooB Amp Project request for open-license ML and Neural Amp models

I was with you but I'm a bit taken aback by your aversion to the GPL. Terms like "infect" and "monstrous" are a bit much.

Re: Wishlist for the ideal drum machine

Hello and thank you for Drumlabooh. I use drum plugins to simulate human drummers. Realism is most important to me. I edit using the piano roll, so mapping to MIDI devices like keyboards and electronic drum kits isn't as important to me.

Re: Ugritone shutting down

You can buy everything (drums, amps, midi collections) for ~$130 USD. All 17 kits alone are $70.

I'd rather pay full price and have them stay in business. Michael's update gives me some hope for the future.

Re: Harrison no longer developing plugins for Linux

It's worth looking at the video. Dan really does excoriate Harrison for their claims ("every resistor, capacitor, and transistor is included"). Harrison's response, from Dan's follow-up video, looks even worse. I have no doubt Worrall cost Harrison sales.

Re: Harrison no longer developing plugins for Linux

With regard to Harrison in particular, I was interested in their native Linux channel strips. I saw a review by Dan Worrall that savaged the 32C plugin: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U9eySYxwDXI. I almost bought the plugin, at full price, regardless of the bad review. I am happy to support Linux d...

Re: Harrison no longer developing plugins for Linux

I completely agree that we should support our own, especially open source developers. This means we should financially support the developers behind these projects, even if the software might be a pacman, apt, or yum install away. I'm personally quite impressed with tramp and robbert-vdh . While mak...

Re: Ugritone shutting down

I'd imagine Ugritone's fire sale would be bad if they were looking for a buyer. I could see a modest business model in open-sourcing their engines to get out of the maintenance business, while keeping their drum kit samples, etc, as paid-only. Wouldn't a potential buyer be averse to the target selli...

Ugritone shutting down

Ugritone is a music software company that develops drum samplers, amp plugins, and other products. Ugritone is primarily focused on heavy genres but offers a wide arrangement of styles at very affordable prices. Best of all, Ugritone provides native Linux support for their drum plugins. Unfortunatel...

Re: Harrison no longer developing plugins for Linux

I'm sad to read this news. I've been looking at Linux channel strips and Harrison's had looked like good options.

Re: yabridge and wine-staging 9.7

I'm curious, who is actually using Wine for anything else but audio? The main use seems to be games. Yeah I was just about to mention that. Maybe a branch of Wine specifically focused on proaudio for those who really need their Windows VSTs maybe necessary? Think about it! We've got many mig...

Tramp, I recall you mentioning the jcm800pre in the past. I believe you'd mentioned it was going to get cleaned up. Is this the reason it's not in the VST?

Thank you for making this!

I find the commands a bit easier to manage than config files. But there's no right or wrong way to do things. Glad you're up and running!

Re: nux mg-30 usb latency

More aggressive sample rate and quantum settings will demand more resources from your computer. I do all of my recordings on laptops, so I try to limit my demands until I really need them. Similarly, I use Gnome's "power saver" mode unless I'm recording. I used to do a lot of tweaking but ...

Re: nux mg-30 usb latency

Just a quick note that you might consider temporarily changing PipeWire settings. I use the following: # when recording: pw-metadata -n settings 0 clock.force-quantum 128 pw-metadata -n settings 0 clock.force-rate 48000 # when finished recording: pw-metadata -n settings 0 clock.force-rate 0 pw-metad...
