Re: Essay
Howdy... been on the road to purgatory so haven't been around much. Thanks for the responses, and tips, and refinements, for my non-linux contribution. I'm kind of busy on the dark side for now. I would say don't... over analyze this. It was originally a piano essay that I fit to a string synth,... ...

Re: Lightweight notation editor with a fast startup time
Sorry for the late reply, I am not sure I got notified for your post :? I am not with any drunk dolphins, I am afraid  I am an Ardour user and spend there most of my music-making time. I would just like to right-click a MIDI clip in Ardour, edit it with a fast and playback-less notation editor...

Re: Peering out from the covid cellar...
Spying on customers takes up a lot of disk-space, and eats cpu cycles for breakfast, lunch, dinner, desert, and even midnight snacks  I hope I'll never need windows 10  @glowrak guy *heavy sigh* I get that. It's why I chucked the dual boot on this system. It's pure U.S. Although I like...

Re: Portable MiDI Keyboard recommendations
Ok, i think ill use it to lay a few synth lines and not full actuall production.. I mean who knows maybe i will and ill just make do with that! But right now portability is a #1. Specially since i got a 60 something key keyboard at home and at work i getvthat urge and fire to produce. so your sayin...

Re: Lightweight notation editor with a fast startup time
Hey Basslint! I've always enjoyed creating. Since I've had a means to write things down and hash them out quickly (with midi controller), I am making use of all the ideas, that I always get and then... forget about. I have this cool... vehicle, in Frescobaldi. I used to write from a guitar neck. Not...

Re: Essay
Thanks @Psyocean. I 'm listening to Autumn Park and the second piano piece(as I write this). Very nice. Sorry, I can't read cyrillic alphabet, but the scenery is way cool. Quite a source of inspiration, I'm thinking.
Cheers,

Re: Essay
Hey @andersen, I like the harmonies of the piece. The piano sounds very much like the MIDI piano, because - I suspect - it is sequenced or converted from a written score. Maybe you could improve by at least playing each motif once to capture you performance, both being slightly off-time and introdu...

Essay
I confess, this piece was done on win10, but is what I plan to be doing in Ubuntu Studio fairly soon. (and why I'm here.) https://www.dropbox.com/s/jib2zkscsj33df2/the%20last%20gasp%20of%20a%20dying%20man%20mix3.wav?dl=0/ It's a fairly short essay that I wrote recently. BTW, No, it's not a statement...

Cool. One of the problems that I understood, with CbB on Linux was the extra layer required to get it to run, slowing things down. But you've got my attention. I'll keep my eye on it. Thanks for the info.

Re: Lightweight notation editor with a fast startup time
Hi Basslint, Dunno if you're still looking, but if you're talking about an editor to generate a score, I've found Frescobaldi, a really able environment. It takes midi controller input. It generates a pdf score, and a midi file. And, you can import midis but that's a can of worms unto itself. I comp...

Re: No sound with Ubuntu Studio
I wish I could help, but I'm just about to set up Qtractor on US. Then I read Taersh' comments about Dell issues. (sigh) Oh man I hope he's wrong. I'll let you know what I find. Lilith mentioned soundcard. I'd start there too. Is the hardware device you're using for output from Master bus working at...

Re: Greetings from Liverpool!
Welcom EM, Looks like you've got a lot of equipment to play with. I had to look up Midiman Oxygen 8. Do you use it with a particular synthesizer? I've always run either a Linux virtual machine or a dual boot. But am writing this on a native Linux box finally. So far, I'm happy Ubuntu Studio. Lots to...

Re: Peering out from the covid cellar...
I've been using Rosegarden since... well forever  It's one of the oldest (rather like me) and has it's quirks. It is under slow but steady development and I find it just very 'comfortable' to use. How does it do with VSTs or synths? Also what is it's footprint?.. in terms of storage etc... I l...

Re: Peering out from the covid cellar...
Welcome to the forum! For midi-work there are much better DAWs than Ardour. I really like it for mixing recordings, it starts to fall apart as soon as i want to trigger a snare. It is possible, but not at all convenient. Id suggest taking a look at Bitwig or Qtractor. Welcome @andersen ! I second t...

Re: Portable MiDI Keyboard recommendations
so your saying that 32 while smaller will make me gravitate to 48? even onthe go? I got the controller to use with a synthesizer synth and FX and then found I was actually using it as a piano! It's too short for that. Needs another octave, but (IMO) it's perfect for FX and synthesizer lines. NI sof...
