Re: AVLinux-MXE Getting Started
Page 40 may be more useful. Guess you never read that far. If Reaper worked with ALSA in Kubuntu it will work in AVL-MXE. You don't need JACK to get started. I doubt any "gurus" (which virtually nobody would claim to be) are doing what you suggest. The average Linux muso is probably putting the hour...

Re: Geonkick release
Thank you for this. Geonkick is great and a standout in the sparse landscape of percussion synthesisers.

Re: What is your favorite female vocalist?
Currently, I'd have to go with Beth Hart. Beth is an outstanding singer and performer. I had the pleasure of mixing monitors for her at a show a couple of years ago. She embraced me in a big sweaty hug as she came off stage in appreciation for the nice stage sound I gave her. An unforgettable highl...

Re: AV Linux MX Edition Released!
I tried liquorix at first but got the same errors trying to install Nvidia. Ultimately had success running the 5.4.28avl2-lowlatency driver from the repos. I'm guessing you installed a Liquorix version too new for the available nvidia drivers. It regularly takes weeks for a compatible nvidia driver...

Wonderful work! Definitely shades of Holst in there.
I agree with you about James Hilton's book too, one of my favourites.

Re: Piano + midi in Linux???
As you already have Ardour it's quite simple to run as a plugin host. Just create a new MIDI track, load a sampler, soundfont player, or synth and select your MIDI keyboard as input. For practice I quite like MDA Piano which comes with the mda-lv2 package. It's tiny, just over 3MB installed and the ...

Re: AV Linux MX Edition Released!
Thanks, I'll try a few different kernels. Don't really need the latest, either, especially since my hardware is like 10 years old  Recent kernels are patched for security vulnerabilities and possibly other bugs. That's the main reason not to use old kernels. I run a 12 YO Core2Duo system on De...

Re: AV Linux MX Edition Released!
Is it possible to install Nvidia on this kernel or do I need a different one? The default realtime kernel doesn't support building nvidia driver modules. Liquorix kernel is a good low-latency alternative for which nvidia should build fine as long as the driver version is compatible ie. the very lat...

Re: Greets From the Gulf Coast, US
Welcome a.d. I was a lurker for a long time and also only recently signed up here. Just wondering why you use different distros for recording and editing/programming. Doesn't that complicate things? I would have thought the same programs are available for both Debian and Fedora. Thanks for linking t...

Wow, sad to hear that. I'm not a video creator at all but vaguely knew about the saga of Cin. Your writing is quite moving, thanks for sharing.

Re: What's playin' while movin' ?
Currently in the car's CD player: Kruder & Dorfmeister - "The K&D Sessions" Classic album that one. I played it constantly after it first was released 22 years ago. Been playing some Chicane albums myself. Many killer songs that often get me jumping even when home alone. 8) "Easy To Assemble" and "...

Re: AV Linux MX Edition Released!
And yes the Mixbus thing is a big piss off... they didn't sent out an email about the new version so I knew nothing about it.. There's thread/s on their forum complaining about that, it's been the same forever IIRC. Updates are always announced on the forum and I read that nearly every day. Couldn'...

Re: AV Linux MX Edition Released!
to let you know, even kxstudio is lagging behind by a lot these days. don't take it for granted, the kxstudio team is only dealing their own stuff and only, carla, cadence, mod-stuff and related plugins, whatever... onto my side to help, there's this instead: https://launchpad.net/~rncbc i believe ...

Re: AV Linux MX Edition Released!
Just did a quick live boot test with it. Impressive! Boots and runs smoothly on my system with Nvidia GTX970 and 4K monitor . A little surprised at that. Used MX Tweak to scale the display to 1.5X, nice. I like the new theme much better than the RC version although the wallpaper reminds me slightly ...

Wow, there's even a deb package, perfect. Downloaded and will be trying it out tomorrow hopefully.
