Hi giulio, I'm not familiar with Ubuntu Studio. But I would recommend running either pulseaudio or jack. These are audio layers that enable sharing of a hardware device for multiple programs. A program can grab an alsa hardware device, making it inaccessible for other applications, like your browser...

I found a solution for my strange problem. This might also be helpful for those who are looking for super low latency setups. Hi, It might be bug in alsa kernel subsystem. I haven't any good advice for diagnose other than test with other/newer kernel. Hi, I switched to the lts kernel with the rt patch form the AUR. Hi again,

I swapped out the pc hardware. The issue is now resolved. It seems is if there was indeed a strange hardware issue withe the previously used HP laptop. Just in case anyone has a similar issue, the laptop was a HP ProBook 6550b
