Re: Debugging Xruns
Nice find @gauderbock - that's definitely helped. At some high sampling rates and low buffer sizes this can still crop up. I've got a fairly stable configuration with manageable latency now though.

Re: Scarlett 18i20 gen 3 Linux - Crackling Audio
@Martin79, @alex, this topic (and forum) is not about kernel building. You should probably start with some docs about building the kernel in your distro. For example I've found some links in the Google ("ubuntu build kernel with patches"): ... Thanks very much for the references and the h...

Re: Debugging Xruns
Thanks for all the ideas! Still reading up on c-states and investigating more, but in the meantime: Is the xrun situation the same no matter what USB port you use? It's erratic enough that it's hard to tell much marginal difference between USB ports. Out of curiosity, is it generally better to use a...

Re: Focusrite Scarlett Gen 3 4i4 (and others)
Can confirm this worked on my 3rd Gen 18i8 too. Thanks!GuitarNoob wrote: ↑Wed May 13, 2020 1:46 am I did get it out of MSD mode. I first tried to using the method in the docs but it didn't seem to work so IIRC I just held down the 48v button for about 15 seconds while powering it on.

Re: Scarlett 18i20 gen 3 Linux - Crackling Audio
EDIT: `/usr/src/linux-x.x.x/sound/usb/pcm.c` file on my desktop from kernel 4.6 looks significantly different and path is not applicable directly. However I found pcm.c file on my laptop (kernel 5.3.7) to be similar so I applied source patch here. The 4.6 kernel is pretty old and the code in set_sy...

Debugging Xruns
I have a few simple questions about debugging xruns. I'm relatively new to the pro-audio world but have been working with Linux for years. I'm running Ubuntu Studio 20.04 on a 2014 ThinkPad with a Focusrite Scarlett 18i8. Kernel version 5.4.0-29-lowlatency and using primarily Ardour5. My xrun woes h...

Re: Focusrite Scarlett Gen 3 4i4 (and others)
Geoffrey, Like GuitarNoob, I also just got a 3rd gen 18i8. I'd love to chip in and help with anything I can if it would be useful. OS: Ubuntu Studio 20.04 Kernel: 5.4.0-29-lowlatency I've had a similar experience: can read inputs 1-4 on the front and 5-8 on the back no problem, and I've been able to...
