No GUI for Zyn in Ardour in Linux Mint

I just installed Mint 20 Mate and I can't get any version of Zyn to post a GUI in Ardour. I started with the kxstudio .deb package; and it crashed Ardour when I tried to bring up the GUI. Then I uninstalled, cleaned up and installed zynaddsubfx from the Mint repo. It doesn't post a GUI either. I the...

Re: Rock/Metal Midi Instrument Design in Zyn

I'm releasing the instruments one at a time; as they begin to mature. I'll dedicate a video to each one; with information about the instrument. I'm releasing the first version of the distorted rhythm guitar now; with the detailed information about it. Here's the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?...

Re: Rock/Metal Midi Instrument Design in Zyn

No problem, you are doing a great job (I can already see some very musical applications) Thanks. When I release them, I'm going to include as much information as I can muster; for those who want to help develop them. I'm hoping that many hands can come up with some really good MIDI instruments for ...

Re: Rock/Metal Midi Instrument Design in Zyn

On a more isolated listen, I think there are some "chirping" high frequencies which could be attenuated a bit. Cleaning it up is really difficult. I'll continue working on it; but it may take some time. The problem is pretty interesting. Synths simulate the full spectrum of tones. With el...

Re: Rock/Metal Midi Instrument Design in Zyn

I posted a new vid; with clips of the demo song, without the lead, and with and without post processing. It should give a much better idea of what the rhythm guitar sounds like. I have decided to go ahead and change the license to CC0. I appreciate the feedback; and I hope to hear more. I'll be rele...

Re: Rock/Metal Midi Instrument Design in Zyn

Hi Basslint:
Thank you for this, I think it's a great idea!
I had fun with this. It was a nice change of pace; from other things I'm doing. :)

I may just go with CC0; since it's a creative work. It seems more appropriate. Thanks for the suggestion.

Re: Rock/Metal Midi Instrument Design in Zyn

Hi nilshi: Thank you for the reply; and the sub. :) I've actually been thinking about doing a drum kit in Zyn too. I usually use the avldrums Black Pearl kit; but I tweak it a bit too. The lead guitar does need some work. I haven't tried amp sims with any of them yet; but I may get into that, later ...

Rock/Metal Midi Instrument Design in Zyn

I've been designing some WTFPL V2, distorted, MIDI guitars for Zyn. I'm starting to sneak up on the result I want; and I would really appreciate some feedback on them. I intend to release them for community development some time this summer. I just have a release for another project to do first. I m...

Re: Why learn music theory?

I admit Turing Test type comparisons aren't that interesting on the surface; but it could help us to better understand where we get the ability. Posing questions in different ways help us to attack problems from as many directions as possible. There's a difference between the narrowly focused AI tha...

Re: Why learn music theory?

Symmetry is more about consistency in patterns. The symmetry of scale patterns are somewhat fractal in that they repeat. For instance, the base pattern of the diatonic scale is the Do, Re, Me, Fa, So, La, Ti; and it just repeats. On a guitar neck the patterns of whole and simi-tones repeat at the 12...

Re: Why learn music theory?

What got me interested in this rabbit hole is the question, could strong AI make music that is virtually indistinguishable from human written music. There is of course enough theory to generate pretty nice pieces of music procedurally; but they aren't as interesting as human written music, and they ...

Re: Why learn music theory?

Humans can reconcile roughly about 12 pieces of information. This explains a lot of the structure of music. Classical for instance, pushes the envelope with the tension; and even throws in more ascension prior to release. Of course humans are moved by such strategies (for better or worse); but the s...

Re: Why learn music theory?

I think the most interesting thing about music theory is that music existed long before it. It's not so much a method for creating music as it is an understanding of what is being created. Music theory doesn't determine what is appealing to the human ear and emotional response. It just tries to expl...
