Re: Advice with custom compact pc build

Well, I have heard people say that internal sound cards are noisy, but I don't know how true that is. I've used a few, and while the monitoring situation is a bit of a pain, most are fairly quiet. I did have one on an old laptop which had terrible crosstalk between the input and the output channels,...

Re: youtube now having adverts in music videos

Musicians should look at getting their music up on https://d.tube/ which is built on the Steem blockchain. No ads required to pay you rewards and it does not get censored either. There is also https://dsound.audio/ for purely audio stuff. I speak as a someone who has used Steem for over 3 years and...

Re: How long do you need to finish a song?

Maybe 20 hours? It takes a wee while to do all the mixing as I just do it during smoko breaks at work, and I am just usually learning how to record and work different software. I've only recorded a few songs so far. I hope to get faster as I get more experienced. I am fortunate to not be a perfectio...

Re: Are There Any Audio Only Based Distributions?

Thanks, I'll give it a try. The hard drive isn't too much of a concern as they are so cheap these days, but my concern was that the more stuff installed on a system, the higher the chance of it slowing the system down. I have a Asus eeePC netbook with a Intel Atom N570 duel core 1.7 GHz as my portab...

Are There Any Audio Only Based Distributions?

I read the thread down below, but it is a little bit old now. I was wondering if there were any distributions based solely around audio? All the ones I have found seem to be multimedia focused, but I don't wish to do any video editing or animation or image work or anything like that on my studio com...

Re: Looking for DAW with strong notation editor on any OS.

Cakewalk by Bandlap (free now) has a good notation editor, and it records straight into it in real time when recording with a metronome which is nice. I have been preferring to use Open Source software though, so just compose and arrange in Musescore then just save as a midi and import into Qtractor...

Re: Recording small wind band

Hi there, I have a little bit of experience with recording brass as I am a Soprano Cornet player myself. I think you'd be better off to use the dynamic mics for the brass section as brass tends to be very loud. Clarinet is more of a gentle instrument, so it would benefit from a more sensitive mic. I...

Re: Damn, *which* USB interfaces actually work with KXStudio/Ubuntu????

I have a Midisport UNO and it works out of the box with linux, no drivers requires, so I would have thought that a 4x4 would work too? I use a Lexicon Alpha with absolutely no problems, I bought it second hand for $3 as it had crackly pots, but that was soon cleaned up with contact cleaner. They are...
