Re: LSP and Span analysers
Not related to smoothness, but one thing to be aware of, is that afaik Span defaults to a 4.5dB/octave slope setting. LSP's default appears to be 'pink noise', which I believe is equivalent to 3dB/octave. So if you want equivalent readings (particularly in the higher end), you may want to change LSP...

Re: LSP and Span analysers
I think mastering mode with a slow reactivity setting is likely the smoothest view you're going to get with LSP.

Re: My (aka Ben Enkindle) newest trance release, plus other electronic experiments
Thank you! The techniques I use are of course pretty standard in much of dance music. Gentler breakdown providing breathing space, gradually building up to the energetic drop. Straightforward melodies with lots of repetition, so it's all about creating enough subtle variation to keep it interesting,...

My (aka Ben Enkindle) newest trance release, plus other electronic experiments
Hiya! Been a while since I posted any of my stuff here. Over the last couple years I've been honing my skills at making electronic music, slowly improving, and self-releasing the results. I've just released my latest EP of trance tracks, titled "Tail of Ice". Ben Enkindle is the artist nam...

Re: What's going on with LSP's Spectrum Analyzer's mid-side information here? Bug?
I'm using REAPER, with pipewire-alsa as the output device, running at 48kHz, with a 2048 sample buffer size. I doubt my distro would have much effect on something like this, but I'm on Kubuntu 23.10, if relevant. And like I said, this is the latest LSP build and the CLAP version (the plugin's settin...

What's going on with LSP's Spectrum Analyzer's mid-side information here? Bug? [solved]
Hiya. I've recently been noticing something a little weird with the LSP Spectrum Analyzer in mid-side mode. There appears to be content shown that is not present in the normal stereo mode and I don't think should be part of the audio signal; what looks kinda like a noise floor or something. It's par...

Re: Motorolla-dsp56300 emu with gui updated
It remembers me the context of MAME (Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator). Emulating the DSP behind the machine itself for preservation purposes is the best that can be done when real HW, sooner or later, will be gone. As for MAME, the the accuracy of emulation should be the main goal. Playability, &q...

Re: Motorolla-dsp56300 emu with gui updated
Yes, absolutely. But how many people wanting to use the emulator actually own a hardware Virus? To be clear, I personally have no qualms about downloading that kind of stuff for personal use. And I think it is highly unlikely that Access would come knocking at your door if you do use it. But speakin...

Re: Motorolla-dsp56300 emu with gui updated
I mean... not contested by Access doesn't automatically make it legal... Unless they've straight up, officially said it's ok to use the roms, it still feels a little too grey area for my liking.

Re: How to handle LSP "Dummy" Packages
Huh, honestly I've never even noticed those r3d files and it hasn't occurred to me to copy them, I just go straight for the actual plugin file... I've never needed the Room Builder for anything, so I haven't had a need for them.

Re: How to handle LSP "Dummy" Packages
I downloaded the file for LV2 plugins: lsp-plugins-lv2-1.2.14-BSD-x86_64 After decompressing it, I see several files and directories. I read that the plugins are "ready to use", they only need to be copied to specific directories. For LV2 in my case it would be /usr/lib/lv2. So first of a...

Re: How to handle LSP "Dummy" Packages
Just considering the functionality of a plugin: does it make a difference if I use it in LV2 or any other format? The format you use very likely shouldn't affect functionality, as long as the host you're using properly supports the format you're using. In theory the different plugin formats might h...

Re: How to handle LSP "Dummy" Packages
current release of LSP is 1.2.14. Kx.studio has 1.2.12. Ubuntu 23.10 is on 1.2.11. I have no idea what Mint is at.) Mint is at 1.1.31 Oof, yeah, that is pretty old. The 1.2 branch was a major overhaul of the graphics, with a much more modern visual style. They've also added several new plugins sinc...
