Re: Firewire audio devices

The kernel has built-in ALSA support for several firewire devices. On top of that there is FFADO. Don't see how Ubuntu Studio can drop support? Firewire interfaces are rock stable and delightfully cheap on the used market plus you can avoid the dumpster fire that is USB. Everything in our studio is ...

Re: Updated list of Linux compatible audio interfaces

I've been buying old firewire interfaces for the past few months and making mini reviews for fun. The FFADO list was outdated and now it's gone. Re: MOTU 828mkII MIDI issues

I just picked up a 828mkII for testing. While I have not had a chance to plug anything into them the MIDI ports detect and export without crashing. Started with a2jmidid -ue.

Re: Please share your gnu/linux music production setup

Don't make much in the way of music but have learned quite a bit reading over the forums. This is my little setup for our podcast studio. Homebrew audio PC: This box records with ardour and handles the mix-minus for three additional computers using netjack. Ryzen 1700 16 GB RAM Ubuntu 18.04 10GB Mel...

Re: Peavey USB-P DAC

I use three of these for our podcast. One with Pulseaudio and the other two with Jack. Never had an issue with them.

The output is on the low side. Nothing a preamp can't sort.

If you are looking for a cheap isolator do a search on Amazon for ADUM3160.

Re: Microphone recommendations for speech

Picked up a Golden Age Project D2 for out of curiosity last year and I'm quite happy with it. Even has a bass roll off filter to keep some of the boom out of my voice.

It does require a significant about of gain to get up to level. Might not be able to drive it without an external preamp.
