Re: Unubtu20.04 /linux-image-5.x-lowlatency, useful or not?

OK, installed linux-lowlatency and got kernel 5.4.0-40-lowlatency which boots without issues. Tested ~15 minutes playing a 1-bar loop in MusE with MDA-ePinao and 2 LV2 effects, Calf chorus and plate reverb; not actually challenging. Result: 1 XRUN after ~5 minutes - no change, as expected. Probably ...

Re: Unubtu20.04 /linux-image-5.x-lowlatency, useful or not?

First of all, xruns are not to be taken this seriously except if you record/overdub. Yep, I do record and the blips are in the recording too! Not so often, not really a showstopper. The lowlatency kernel will help you getting lower latency if you want to. Nope, "lowlatency" at kernel level should r...

Unubtu20.04 /linux-image-5.x-lowlatency, useful or not?

With JACKD I had a lot of XRUNs, but I managed to eliminate most of them with the tweaks I found in the web: - Plug USB interface to different USB of PC - disable some BIOS features - uninstall Linux daemons useless for audio - disable all vulnerability mitigations (kernel command line mitigations=o...

Re: Using amidi to send SYSEX to old synthetizers

I used amidi to reanimate my old M1 too and there was no tricky option necessary to achieve this: - Dig into the M1's system settings and enable reception of SYSEX. - Send the original SYSEX file from the KORG web page to your MIDI interface (M1preld.syx from 1996-08-20, md5sum=9176180e0d328e33c5a85...

Re: Advice for a beginner, looking to have a go at recording.

Proposed you stick to Linux, I see 3 basic directions: (1) You are not a Linux insider and just need something to work with. You do not want so spend any money. Use Ubuntu Studio or AVlinux and accept whatever you encounter there; probably Ardour or Qtractor. Accept slightly outdated software and do...

Re: Wave track or group track to catch direct outputs of synth?

Thanks for this detailed explanations; this would be worth a paragraph in the Wiki too. My conclusion is that a group tracks should be used to add effects to the discrete outputs of a multi-synth. Recording the dry synth outputs to a wave track is next to useless and the group track consumes less re...

Wave track or group track to catch direct outputs of synth?

Hello again, no bug this time, just a question: If I have a synth track with multiple outputs (drum synth, multi sampler), what is the best way to provide different effects for the separate outputs? I used group tracks because this seems to be their purpose, even if there is just one input track. Th...

Re: Wave editor: Weird time scale after cut and paste

Just for the records: This is not a bug; I was informed that switching the time signature creates a master track entry with a tempo change. I abused the time signature to get a finer grid and for now there is not other option to achieve this. I filed a feature request on github.com and the issue is ...

Re: Handling 3/4 time sig

Tried this too because I did not use 3/4 with MusE yet. At first, I also was baffled, but thumbknuckle is perfectly right; one note is 4x 1/4, no matter if the signature is 3/4 or 4/4. The only thing close to a bug could be the lack of snap=3_4ths, but snap=4 (4ths) is just fine. A snap selector ent...

Re: Wave editor: Weird time scale after cut and paste

Yep, it's the master track. I - as a MusE newbie - did not yet care about the master track at all. I understand that changing the signature in the wave editor creates this master track entry. So I abused the signature just to get the 16th grid. Wow can I change the grid in the editors without changi...

Wave editor: Weird time scale after cut and paste

Hi, I got a weird time scale after performing these steps: Set signature from 4/4 to 16/16 Cut seleection Silence this selection Paste selection a little to the left (where the red marker is) The audible output is fine / as expected! Switching the signature back to 4/4 does not fix the time scale. T...

Re: No Synths after copy of MusE binaries to other PC

Checked this again: - purged all libraries with deborphan, removed also the libs MusE depends on. - reinstalled the libs MusE needs to start - started MusE - NO SYNTHS! - installed lv2-dev - started MusE - SYNTHS are present! - removed lv2-dev - started MusE - NO SYNTHS! So my first statement was wr...

Re: constant xruns

Then I had the "stupid" idea do test with "realtime = off" et voila, SOLVED! This is ODD, jackd screws up I/O if realtime=on!? Does if "take real time" in this case? No, not solved. With jackd/realtime=off there are still XRUNs every 1..2 minutes, not related to the buffer size. I had to go ...

No Synths after copy of MusE binaries to other PC

I copied the entire MusE installation from my PC to my laptop and it works - except for the synthesizers. I copied all files from /usr/local. Only the MESS synths are present; no synths in LV2. Installation on both PCs: - Xubuntu 20.04, fully updated to the same state - ubuntustudio-audio-plugins (t...
