Re: Help understanding open/universal standards

Thank you all for the thoughtful replies and comments! There's a lot to learn, I'm sure, but thankfully, resources such as this community are really a goldmine, regardless of the knowledge or skill level one sees themselves at. And I'm serious, I'm very happy to have found you and to read so many us...

Re: Help understanding open/universal standards

It would be a good idea to google everything you are considering buying. The best idea would be to find someone who has actually got the hardware in question working on Linux. With code from Drumfix I got the USB audio on a Roland GR-55 working. Roland would tell you that is impossible. While I was...

Re: Help understanding open/universal standards

class compliant hardware does not need a driver. Well, it still needs a driver; it's just that if the device is class-compliant, then you can be assured that the driver is built into the Linux kernel and you don't have to worry about it. Thanks for the clarification! This, unfortunately, is the que...

Help understanding open/universal standards

Hi all, I'm trying to get as GNU/Linux-FOSS-only as possible in all my digital activities and I'm trying to better understand this world and hardware compatibility in particular. Therefore, what resources do you suggest, what should I read/watch/learn in order to get a better understanding of the op...

Re: How to improve drum machine sound

Thanks for your suggestions, it nearly does make sense on all. I am after some realistic drum sound, like metal-ish sound; do you know if DrumGizmo or AVL Drumkits LV2 could do the job? Yes. I'm a amateur rock/metal guitar player and although I've made EZDrummer, Superior Drummer 3 and Steven Slate...

Re: EZDrummer alternative?

For me, MT Power Drum Kit works best, it even has the mixer which is similar to EZDrummer's: https://www.powerdrumkit.com/ For me drag & drop from MT Power Drum Kit to Mixbus/Ardour does not work, so it's usability is bit limited. From thread MT-PowerDrumKit Alternative ? you can find script wh...

I have tried the AVL Drums and I found MT more flexible (especially because of the mixer).

Re: Help making a simple drumkit for DrumGizmo

Do you get Mixbus to make sounds if you load one of the kits available through DrumGizmo? No, I'm just getting the reddish peaking indicator of MIDI activity, but no sound. I can't help you, but you might help from the developers if you post it in the drumgizmo section of the forum (a subforum of &...

Help making a simple drumkit for DrumGizmo

Hi all, I'm very happy I found you and please excuse me since I know what I'm going to post is covered in some basic tutorials, but I just couldn't make stuff work. So: I'm trying to make a simple drumkit for DrumGizmo, just to get the general idea of this plugin. I've downloaded the free samples fr...
