Re: Libre Music Challenge #3 : B.Excellent

Thanks rghvdberg for this idea. I'm really curious about the results :-). Some tips about the installation. The easiest way are packages. Friends of the AUR rolling release packages are always up to date (esp. thanks milk ). Other packages may also be fine or may stuck at older versions (including ....

Copyright/copyleft drum pattern?

Does anybody know if a drum pattern can be copyrighted? And what about a whole collection of drum patterns?

Background: https://lawyerdrummer.com/2018/04/can-c ... -drumbeat/ and the discussion below it.

[ANN] B.Jumblr 1.4.0 (LV2 plugin)

It's time for a new release of B.Jumblr, a pattern-controlled audio-stream & sample re-sequencer. Now it comes along with multiple pattern pages (as requested for automation by unfa in his last monthly live stream https://youtu.be/MmGLTOkNenc?t=4491 ) and optional MIDI control. https://raw.githubuse...

Re: B.Schaffl - New pattern-controlled MIDI amp & stretch LV2 plugin

Version 0.2 is out now: https://github.com/sjaehn/BSchaffl/releases Suggestions from here and there were taken in account if possible. Now you can add randomness to both, amp and stretch. Additional humanization features have to wait for later versions of B.Schaffl (see problems discussed here). The...

Re: B.Schaffl - New pattern-controlled MIDI amp & stretch LV2 plugin

oops, i posted the wrong link initially; https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0127902 After a while of thinking about it ... I see the limits. One hand, we have the signal level aspect (amp, velocity). And the temporal aspect on the other. The authors of the paper find ...

Re: B.Schaffl - New pattern-controlled MIDI amp & stretch LV2 plugin

The words from the music vocabulary are 'augmentation' for stretching and 'diminution' for compressing. I fully agree if we talk about notes. However, the plugin doesn't stretch/augment or compress/diminish only notes. It stretches/compresses steps. And as result *any* MIDI signal. Not only notes. ...

Re: B.Schaffl - New pattern-controlled MIDI amp & stretch LV2 plugin

And what is compressing a midi signal? It that like when velocity of incoming note is 10, you get an output of 127 in most extreme form? Temporal stretching and compressing. Like conversion of a quarter note to a half or an eigth note. Depending on the stretch or compression of the respective step....

Re: B.Schaffl - New pattern-controlled MIDI amp & stretch LV2 plugin

Thanks milk Fractal patterns would indeed be an interesting option. And it would fit to the algorithm-based approach of the plugin. Discussed alternatives including A. I. and human input discussed here and there all have their disadvantages. Interestingly, the authors of the paper left some space fo...

A random generator could also be very helpful.
Random generators for amp and stretch are just added to the master at the github project page. Thank you for the request.

Re: B.Schaffl - New pattern-controlled MIDI amp & stretch LV2 plugin

Simple randomness barely introduces a human feel, but rather a bunch of rhythmic artefacts that don't sound so natural. I partially agree. The reduction of a human being (like a drummer) to his or her errors (= randomness) is a oversimplification. Nevertheless, randomness is a key factor to make co...
