That's a Reaper issue. It partly works in Ardour, Tracktion and BitWig on Linux.

Re: Sitala drum plugin
There is a packaging error on the ubuntu deb I think It does install without error on Debian testing, which appears to have a compatible version of libwebkit2gtk-4.0-37. Which is lucky for me, since I'm on Debian testing. Actually what initially happened was I built versions for Debian Stable and U...

Re: Sitala drum plugin
Something I figured the folks here would be interested in: for the upcoming release, we removed the dependency on GTK. It was only being used by Webkit to render changelogs in our update notifications, which are now shown in plain text on Linux, rather than HTML. This means a lot less dependencies a...

Re: Sitala drum plugin
I'll play around with this and see how a statically linked Sitala fares. Back in the day (I was a very active Linux desktop developer in the early 2000s) you would still run into problems if you had two versions of the same library loaded into a binary because of global variable clashes and symbol ...

Re: Sitala drum plugin
Yep, that did the trick. Nice catch. While I'm here, I'm curious to know what may be planned for supporting the importing of additional kits? Sitala does support importing additional kits (click on the "hamburger menu" in the top right), there's just not yet a significant pool of addition...

Re: Sitala drum plugin
Ubuntu LTS is based on a Debian sid? From a programming point of view this is not a problem? Debian sid is quite exciting sometimes (bugs, system changes (libs), update, ...), isn't it? It's good to use, no question - I'm using Gentoo sid - but from a programming point of view I imagine it to be st...

Re: Sitala drum plugin
I'm curious why this appears to be less of a problem on Windows (I haven't done Windows development in ages), can you elaborate on that? You mention you "choose which version of the system you're targeting, and build packages for that version of the system", but that sounds like it is onl...

Re: Sitala drum plugin
Fortunately now-a-days almost all software (that I use) is in the standard repo of a distro or in KXStudio's repo. Do you think your plugin will make it into the standard repo of a distro? Or in the KXStudio repo? That may be a completely different discussion altogether, my apologies on beforehand ...

Re: Sitala drum plugin
I agree this is easy to miss - and I suspect many upstream projects don't actually feel strongly about this aspect of the license either... I applaud you for being aware of the issue and holding yourself to a higher standard. Probably the difference is that I've written a lot of [L]GPL code, and as...

Re: Sitala drum plugin
Everything you said in your post is correct and a great explanation. Thanks! So I'll just respond to the one direct question here: One commonly applied technique to distribute binaries that work across a number of Linuxes, already mentioned by Scott above, is by linking them statically. He is right ...

Re: Sitala drum plugin
As a simple end-user it comes across like this: to simple little old me it looks as though development kit makers do not care about me as a user, they don't spend any time on assessing which versions of a library their stuff is really dependent. As a user I get the impression that the software in q...

Re: Sitala drum plugin
I don't think Ardour's packaging is bad or questionable, just different in its purpose. The binaries from ardour.org aim to be distro-agnostic with the expectation that plugins be distro-agnostic as well. It would be a little ugly, but understandable if they were shipping an application which does ...

Re: Sitala drum plugin
I'm not entirely sure that I would recommend this (since I don't know what assumptions Ardour makes about the old libraries), but just doing this makes things work for me: cd /opt/Ardour-5.12.0/lib mkdir old mv libgio-2.0.so.0 libglib-2.0.so.0 libgobject-2.0.so.0 libharfbuzz.so.0 old/ After that Ard...

Re: Sitala drum plugin
I picked it up from here http://kxstudio.linuxaudio.org/Repositories:Applications back around 2016 or there about. It works, so haven't thought about it much since. Can't help in that regard much beyond that, unfortunately. So, as I said, LXStudio doesn't actually ship Ardour anymore. I decided, ho...
