Re: Live mixing with Linux - State of the art 2018

Yesterday in rehearsal I've got some performance improvements on Windows 10 by changing some UEFI settings. For those who are interested: https://www.forum.rme-audio.de/viewtopic.php?pid=137573#p137573 @ khz Sorry but I think I won't give Linux another try in the next months. The main reasons are: -...

Re: Live mixing with Linux - State of the art 2018

@ Musicteacher @nuri: Which desktop environment did you use for your experiments? First I tried KXStudio (the distro, not only the repos), that is KDE4 desktop environment. Then I tried AVLinux (XFCE) and I ended up with a stock Xubuntu (XFCE) coupled with a Liquorix RT kernel. In the case of nuri, ...

Re: Live mixing with Linux - State of the art 2018

@ Musicteacher The problem with standalone jack-apps is, that the jack-graph gets really huge. Ok, but it should only be a problem the first time you set everything up. After that, you can load a preset config and you're done. Maximum would be 3 guitarix-instances Sadly we cannot use guitarix on Wi...

Re: Live mixing with Linux - State of the art 2018

@ merlyn: thanks for your program but I have recently removed Linux from my DAW-Workstation because of a fresh installation of Win10. Furthermore, some instructions to compile it would be very useful for users like me at "noob" level  . @ Musicteacher Glitch free with a 64 samples b...

Re: Live mixing with Linux - State of the art 2018

@raboof Too bad we did not succeed in 'beating' Win10 in this case, but good that we are at least 'on par' Yes it's a bit disappointing! I get the best results with a "stock" Xubuntu 18.04 and the Liquorix RT-Kernel. All music distros I've tested (AV and KX) were garbage on my system. I p...

Re: Live mixing with Linux - State of the art 2018

Ok... I give up again with Linux since I get the same results with Win10. On both systems, I can run glitch free with a 128 samples buffer size. At 32 and 64 samples I get (a lot of) clicks and pops on both Win10 and Linux. Nothing has improved, no matter what I'm tuning in the OS's or in the UEFI-B...

Re: Live mixing with Linux - State of the art 2018

I'm using Ubuntu since 2008 and I never got any problem with "apt autoremove". Never mind... It seems that Xubuntu 18.04 does the job. @JamesPeters: Why are you choosing to monitor through Reaper instead of monitoring through your hardware? Read my 2 or 3 first posts in this thread (yeah, ...

Re: Live mixing with Linux - State of the art 2018

Results of the tests of last Sunday. ONLY WINDOWS 10 FOR THE MOMENT!!! Hardware check: I connected the RayDAT in a small 1x PCIe slot (before it was in a large 16x PCIe slot). --> no noticeable improvement One of the two Behringer ADA8200 was wrong set as sync master (there is a small hardware switc...

Re: Live mixing with Linux - State of the art 2018

:D Thank you all for your interest in my project! I think I will use a new strategy. Beginning from zero! At the moment, my problem is that I don't really know how to set the buffer size so that all members of the band say "it's ok to play with this setting, I can't notice latency". So, wh...

Re: MUSIC DISTROS

To clarify what I wanted to say: AV Linux is not garbage! But if you're not a Linux power user capable of playing with grub and recovering systems, don't try to dual boot AV Linux with another Linux distro. That's all! I'm a big fan of AV Linux but some things are really specific and it's better you...

Re: Live mixing with Linux - State of the art 2018

@ lilith look at one of my past post on this thread. I've attached the Reaper project used for tests. About 50 plugins are involved, all Reaper's built-ins. I'm not interested in recording. No track will be recorded! I'm interested in playing live with DAW computing of effects, automation, volume, p...

Re: Live mixing with Linux - State of the art 2018

Yesterday was Wednesday! We did some real tests with real audio, real speakers, rear rehearsal... Yesterday, only with Windows 10 . At 32 samples, there was a lot of pops, clicks and glitches... while Reaper reports 0 xruns :x . At 64 samples, there was still pops, clicks and glitches. Not so much, ...

Re: Live mixing with Linux - State of the art 2018

@Michael Willis I come figuratively from France but I leave in Germany for 15 years now. So... English speaking is literally not my first skill :P @JamesPeters Before I made the tests I really had searched for the best Linux distro. My conclusion was AVLinux and KXStudio are the best for me. I teste...

Re: Live mixing with Linux - State of the art 2018

I'm a bit disappointed about Linux  I've made absolutely no tweaks in KXStudio. I use it as "vanilla" as possible. I've only configured Cadence. In Windows 10, I've only disabled some GUI effects and some services related to firewall, anti-virus, update... I've disabled systems sounds...

Re: Live mixing with Linux - State of the art 2018

Hi again :) Ok, here are the results of the first tests! I have not already tested the system with the whole band. I've only made some "dry runs" : - building the RME HDSPe RayDAT in the workstation - installing Windows 10 and KXStudio (dual boot) - configuring Windows audio and Cadence (j...
