Re: Why I can't get away from Windows (for now)
Thanks for the talk, it's interesting to see the different takes on this topic. A few Linux DAW-ish ideas have appeared during disk prep and backup as old hardware crept out of the attic: Set up touch screen https://ctrlr.org controller surfaces for most used DAW and instrument functions on a Lenovo...

Re: Why I can't get away from Windows (for now)
One can use Bitwig on Linux if I'm not mistaken. Is there a reason why you do not want to use Bitwig on Linux (I can't find a reason in your top-post)? Sorry if that wasn't mentioned earlier, only reason being I don't own a full Bitwig Studio license only a 8-track. On Windows that can be Jack'd to...

Re: Why I can't get away from Windows (for now)
Maybe it's me but from what I read you mainly use Traction, for which there is a native Linux version... What exactly is holding you back from using Linux? A looper? Then you might like Sooperlooper ( link ). Good luck! :) Thanks and maybe it is you :) Tracktion is great but can't deal with multitr...

Re: Why I can't get away from Windows (for now)
Thanks for the pointers and comments, some quick replies below A semi-pro reaper license is only $60. If you'll get used to wine-staging, installing some wine over-rides, using the linvst wrapper, and applying linux paths and comon sense to installers, the linux reaper and windows reaper in wine are...

Re: Why I can't get away from Windows (for now)
Linux is not a religion, although some people treat it like one. There is no shame in using Windows -- it is a very capable OS with a mature set of tools for audio production. Use the tools that suit your budget and workflow and which support your creativity, and don't worry about it. thanks milo :...

Why I can't get away from Windows (for now)
So this is a bit of a downer to share among all the great inspiration and research here but I decided to come clean anyway. Feel free to debunk my assumptions and signal paths :) My DAW usage is for 1) Live looping bits and pieces written on guitar and keys and index them on disk for easy remixing a...

Re: NixOS and music: Experiences?
NixOS can be declared to be a pro-audio system, see here . This includes kernel optimization and the application of the RT patch. A presentation about NixOS was given at the Linux Audio Conference in 2015 . The NixOS way might seem very intriguing, and indeed it is, but I think you will be facing a...

Re: OllFe live - second live looping electro performance
we dont want to bring prearranged loops on stage. All you can hear is done in this moment. The drum sounds are coming from my drumcomputer (2box drumit5), the little box on my drum rack. With the big (squared) pads (Roland Oktapad-80 & Alesis Controlpad) I only control "record" and &q...

Re: New Live Music Control Application
I've been writing and using this over the last few years and was wondering if there is any interest in open sourcing it . It's written using GTK and WebKit and can control guitarix, sooperlooper, fluidsynth, hydrogen and a few others. I'm looking for feedback and interest levels. Here is a quick ov...

Schneller, ab sofort!
Great work, guitarix could be a harmful Linux gateway drug for some of those musos always looking to try yet another VST without paying 50+ for a commercial one

I wrote a reader's article (in German) trying to spread the word. See https://www.amazona.de/community/linux-und-die-kunst-einen-song-zu-mischen-und-zu-mastern/ Your Carla usage as Stereo-Breitmacher reminds me of Racks in Tracktion (https://ask.audio/articles/getting-modular-with-tracktions-effect...
