Re: Focusrite Saffire Pro 40: Tips and tricks
To add one more thing: ffado-mixer is a neat utility that tries to provide the same functionality as the Saffire MixControl software from Focusrite. I found that it sort of works, with the major issue that it doesn't appear to have an option for saving the settings to the flash in the Pro 40. Howeve...

Focusrite Saffire Pro 40: Tips and tricks
I have been playing with getting my Pro 40 running in Ubuntu using jack. My specific use case is multi-track recording into reaper (I'm sure most people here know this, but there is a native reaper build for linux now). I wanted to contribute a few notes to anyone out there who might be trying to do...

Re: Is a realtime kernel needed?
from my recent experience: I was able to tune settings on my standard kernel until the xruns were rare, however I would still get an xrun once every 20 minutes or so. If you can live with that then go for it, but personally I don't like the idea of having a recording just randomly get nuked by a dro...

Re: cannot start jackd with latency less than 10.7 ms
Hi thanks for the responses! Using jack_iodelay with the 10.7 ms math latency, I was getting a measured delay of 38 ms. Interestingly, if I changed the buffer sizes in the call to jackd to something larger than 10.7 ms, jackd would start up as normal, but jack_iodelay would report the same round tri...

Re: cannot start jackd with latency less than 10.7 ms
Hi, sample rate is 48 kHz, and I have not measured the delay. If I do measure it, I would expect that the true latency can only be longer than the math derived latency of 10.7 ms... correct?

cannot start jackd with latency less than 10.7 ms
Hi, new to the linux music world. I did a bunch of debugging to get my xruns to go away, and now finally the system is stable after installing the linux-lowlatency kernel. My soundcard is a focusrite Saffire Pro 40 (firewire), which appears to be working fine under alsa. The issue I am now having is...
