Re: Motorolla-dsp56300 emu with gui updated

It remembers me the context of MAME (Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator). Emulating the DSP behind the machine itself for preservation purposes is the best that can be done when real HW, sooner or later, will be gone. As for MAME, the the accuracy of emulation should be the main goal. Playability, &qu...

Re: Flash sale of Tracktion F'em synth

Hi artix_linux_user, Well, we could talk now about Mackie in general, but thats again too far stretched. I didn't know about the fact that Tracktion is owned by Mackie (does it really matter here?) We could talk about FM maybe the most boring sound synthesis. At least we got it since the eighties an...

Re: [Solved]Cakewalk v-studio 100 on linux

Hi @othmay, glad you're back, I read the full thread carefully prior to go on with the recent facts, so you already did a lot of work on the subject. I didn't do much by myself except helping the real "insiders", i.e. the alsa developers, with an HW that they do not own. And yes, it turned...

Re: [Solved]Cakewalk v-studio 100 on linux

The best way to report an ALSA bug is on the kernel Bugzilla? Hi merlyn, in my case I was pretty sure it was a kernel bug, and posting on bugzilla kernel triggered most of the actions. At the end posting on the alsa-user mailing list was efficient as well, because sooner or later the developers loo...

Re: [Solved]Cakewalk v-studio 100 on linux

Ok, now it is finally SOLVED . The issue was a regression in the kernel, caused by a strict adherence to USB 2.0 format in the snd_usb_audio module code, while the VS-100 deviates a bit. As Takashi Iway, (developer/maintainer of the ALSA sound system) writes: It's been reported that the recent kerne...

Re: [Solved]Cakewalk v-studio 100 on linux

One month later: the battle continues :D For the curious, follow the entire story here: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=217084 For @admins, khz , MattKingUSA : wouldn't it be better to move this entire thread under "Computer Related Hardware"? (and I would remove "Solved&q...

Re: [Solved]Cakewalk v-studio 100 on linux

Small update from the front: the more I dig the more I understand that the issue is most probably a kernel issue. In particular it seems related to the particular handling of Roland devices by snd_usb_audio kernel module. I did quite a lot of investigations with the available tools from ALSA, also t...

Re: [Solved]Cakewalk v-studio 100 on linux

I'm going to fill the bug report to alsa mailing list today. I've collected some "alsa-info" in both working and non working kernels on the exact same HW. I've also seen through the alsa devel mailing list one patch (at around 5.11 kernel time), about roland devices which has been reverted...

Re: [Solved]Cakewalk v-studio 100 on linux

Like I said a year ago: has anyone filed a bug report to the ALSA developers? This is not a workable situation for owners of the Roland V-Studio 100 audio interface . Hi Linuxmusician01, I'll try to understand the technical issue in the thread about my board and then I'll try to reach out the alsa ...

Re: [Solved]Cakewalk v-studio 100 on linux

Hi all, sorry for the resurrection of an old thread. I've the mighty V-studio 100 as well and I love it! It worked flawlessly since 2013 on mint when I decided to stop dual booting with windows. Today I'm on linux mint 20.1 and for some reasons (mainly too old cmake version) I'd need to update to Mi...

Infact, also Metronom is a great tool. It has a midi sync out and (as far as I know) it is a standalone executable (i.e no plugin).
