Re: Focusrite Scarlett Gen 3 4i4 (and others)
This is just to report that the 2i2 version 3 on Ubuntu Studio 20.04 works out of the box. It is a huge improvement over the performance of the soundcard built in to the motherboard. I am just mentioning this because I had doubts before buying it and I could not find confirmation that it would work...

Re: New Raspberry pi 4 out
I will use a 4K monitor, usc C power supply, connect to Clavinova piano and Yamaha monitor loudspeakers. I have another agenda which is to pave the way for digital music composition at my son's school. He is 12 and they only use Musescore connected to keyboards at the moment and garageband on their ...

Re: New Raspberry pi 4 out
Ok, I see.
I have looked for apps running on straight Raspian, the native Pi OS, and these include Jack, Ardour and Hydrogen. I have no idea how they will run especially with regard to latency. My Pi4 is in the post.

Re: New Raspberry pi 4 out
Would somebody like to hazard a guess as to how Ubuntu Studio would perform on the Pi4 4G mem?

Re: is Hydrogen better than Ardour for drums
As I understand it, you can only output a single bar, or pattern, from Hydrogen as midi. You can't export the whole song.sysrqer wrote: Can you not just record the midi output from hydrogen into ardour and then edit as you like?

Re: is Hydrogen better than Ardour for drums
Thank you, everybody, for your contributions to this. It is good to see that, as a relative novice, this is not a question with a definitive answer. As a related issue, I was puzzled that I could not easily route, using Jack, the outputs of both Ardour and Hydrogen into Audacity to "print"...

is Hydrogen better than Ardour for drums
I am using Ubuntu Studio 19 and fairly new to digital audio working. My question is about Ardour and Hydrogen. I have downloaded the soundfonts for the Ardour drumgizmo plugin as detailed in https://libremusicproduction.com/tutorials/setting-and-using-drumgizmo-ardour However I am defeated by the ne...

Re: No Audio After Using Jack - SOLVED
I don't consider this problem solved, really. We should be able to listen to instructional youtube tutorials on a browser while still having music components connected through Jack. Surely there are some connections in Jack that should allow a browser audio to function at the same time?

Re: ubuntu studio: sound works from browser but nothing else
Screenshot_2017-10-06_13-39-36.png I see now that Jack is the switchboard for inputs and output devices. I would like the simplest possible test. So far I have the Jack Keyboard as an input. So far as I understand Jack Keyboard is a midi output device. It needs to feed to something that will turn m...

Re: ubuntu studio: sound works from browser but nothing else
In ubuntu studio there is a menu section with all the music related programs. Amongst these is QjackCtl which I think is a graphics front end to Jack (am I right?). I launch this and the title bar reads Jack Audio Connection kit (default) stopped. But I can start it with the green arrow. When I clic...

ubuntu studio: sound works from browser but nothing else
Sound works when I play a youtube video in Firefox but no other sound works it seems. It has become a cliche to say that one is defeated by the complexity of Linux sound. However it would be so nice to get it working. Obviously some hardware is responding to some software (Firefox) but how does one ...
