Re: BackupBand

Although it can be used without a midi controller, the app's value is most significant with a midi controller (ie, keyboard, midi guitar, wind controller, electronic drumpads, etc). And I believe most folks here don't own/use a midi controller. I have, quite literally, a whole closet full of MIDI c...

Re: Tascam US-122 causing audio programs to hang in non-root accounts

hmm.

it sounds like, when the drivers are loaded, the (now available) port is not assigned to the AUDIO group. You can attach as root because root already has privilege to access the port. does your udev rule (or can it) attempt to assign rw rights on the created port to the audio group?

Re: Pro quality CD burning?

k3b or Brasero should be able to do what you need. I used to have a program called DeeVeeDee that would build up audio/video/data discs on CD or DVD, and output to an iso9660-compliant ".iso" file. I would typically then "duplicate" that iso file directly to disk from the command...

Re: Hi from UK, LinuxMusician noob in some ways, not so in others!

Hello, and welcome! :) I recently joined this forum as well, having unpacked all my MIDI gear that has been in storage since the early 90's; the last time any of this equipment was powered on I was (also!) a Cakewalk user, running Cakewalk 4.0 Pro on DOS. I think my computer, back then, had an AdLib...

Re: your advice on Linux-compatible MIDI INTERFACES please

I think you may be misunderstanding the contents of a MIDI stream. MIDI is an entire language, featuring NOTE ON and NOTE OFF events , controller messages (pitch bend, volume, reverb depth, etc. etc.); it is decidedly not an easy/quick conversion process, especially compared to simply digitizing the...

Re: Catia and easier stereo connections

It's a PITA but you'll get used to it ;) I try to do as much as possible with plugins inside my DAW for this very reason. I understand the concept of modularity being beneficial, but the reality of trying to get a bunch a disparate tools working together in a tangle of jack connections can be a rea...

Re: Greetings from Tallahassee, FL (USA)

I look forward to hearing some sound from you! Ha ha ha -- yeah, people always say that until they hear me! I'm anxious to get the MIDI stuff connected up again. On the other hand, as poor as they may have been at the time, my "chops" have no doubt deteriorated over the intervening ...

Re: "ESTABLLSHED MEMBER"

I see it is still misspelled, two years later.

In your phpBB configuration settings, there should be a section where the various membership/participant levels are delineated. It is likely misspelled on that list.

Greetings from Tallahassee, FL (USA)

hello all -- My name is Brian. I've been an electronics tinkerer and gadget builder since before I hit puberty. In the past, I've done engineering work including building/testing of microcontroller circuits as well as coding firmware and end-user software applications. There may even be a few MIDI-b...

Re: Video Editing in Linux

Hi all -- I just recently joined this forum, as I'm in the midst of blowing the dust off all my MIDI and audio gear and (finally!) setting up a home studio again. For the veterans here, to give you an idea of where I'm coming from -- the last time I did any sequencing, I was using CakeWalk Pro 4.0 o...
