Re: ALSA: I need a proper example of low-latency loop for DSP

What I'm saying is that MIDI/OSC to parameter routing should be left to the plugin host, unless you have special needs. If you only have normal int/float/list parameters, no need to do that in the plugin yourself.

Re: ALSA: I need a proper example of low-latency loop for DSP

Here's the receipt: 1. [...] How's that different from a writing a plugin? Especially, if you're using a framework, that warps the differences of the various plugin standards. Ok, you don't have to allocate the input and output buffers yourself. Big deal. you don't have to worry about implementing ...

Re: ALSA: I need a proper example of low-latency loop for DSP

maybe even an established DSP wrapper like LADSPA or LV2. Why? Unless you're targetting a non-Linux embedded environment (but then you wouldn't be able to use ALSA as well), make that a definitely . For one thing, you don't have to worry about implementing dynamic parameter control via MIDI or othe...

Re: Renaming ALSA midi ports for aseqnet

I was hoping to rename the ports before the python script launches. I'm not sure you can rename ALSA ports, which your program hasn't opened itself. Maybe you could write a short Python script using the ALSA Python bindings and try? See the examples in the "test" directory of the alsa-pyt...

Re: Suggestion for tools to use programming GUI + MIDI?

You might one check Patroneo for some inspiration regarding the GUI, PyQT usage and sequencing. The program does not import or export MIDI, though, AFAIK.

Re: Renaming ALSA midi ports for aseqnet

mido is built on top of python-rtmidi (of which I am the auhor). The latest versions of python-rtmidi allow to rename ports. You can use python-rtmidi on its own instead of mido.

Re: dkbuilder: from circuit to LV2 plugin

On some systems (e.g. Arch) the rename script is installed as "perl-rename", on some as just "rename".

Re: dkbuilder: from circuit to LV2 plugin

The 'pkg-resources' package is normally installed as part of the 'setuptools' package, which already gets installed automatically when you create a virtual environment. So 'pkg-resources' should not be listed in a requirements file (the 'python_venv' argument to the '-r' option). Just remove the lin...

Re: Basic Scripting Question

Probably the value of $XJD_ID has spaces in it, so you need to quote (with double quotes) it in the last line.

Re: Basic Scripting Question

Does xjadeo have ALSA MIDI ports? If so, you would use the 'aconnect' command line program, to connect them with the virtual MIDI port. If xjadeo only has JACK MIDI ports, you need to run 'a2jmidid', to expose ALSA ports to JACK and then use 'jack_connect' (note the underscore, not dash) to connect ...

Re: KXStudio Status.

AFAIK, there isn't an ideal Linux audio distribution that can be recommend without reservation to anybody just yet. The main contenders seem to be KXStudio (whether installed from scratch or added to an existing Ubuntu installation) and AV Linux. Both make it easier to get going compared to general ...
