Re: Purple and red MIDI ports in qpwgraph
It's like comparing apple with oranges. One is an audio server and the other is a repository of audio software. And yet from a user's point of view the effect is the same. Consumer audio and pro-audio uses work alongside each other. No, you don't. PW already comes with a similar MIDI bridge to a2jm...

Re: Purple and red MIDI ports in qpwgraph
Well, installing a2jmidid seems to have worked, although the picture in qpwgraph is now pretty confusing.
For future reference, if you're using PipeWire you have to run a2jmidid using pw-jack as the JACK2 binaries it expects aren't around:
Code: Select all
pw-jack a2jmidid

Re: Purple and red MIDI ports in qpwgraph
tbf I'm quite a fan of Pipewire. It replaces the whole KXStudio ecosystem but in one neat package. As j_e_f_f_g said I don't think PipeWire has come up with its own MIDI, it's just qpwgraph showing the same stuff that qjackctl would have. The real question for me is why there are two damned versions...

Purple and red MIDI ports in qpwgraph
Hi all I've been using Pipewire for a bit and most things seem good. I've been using qpwgraph and have noticed that some MIDI ports are red and some are purple. I didn't really think anything of it because all the ones I needed to connect were purple. I've just installed Reaper and its MIDI ports ar...

Re: pactl load-module denies knowledge of all entities
Thank you so much again. I'll play with your suggestions and see what pops out. I'm working on a brand new install of Kubuntu 2210. pactl info gives me this: Server String: /run/user/1000/pulse/native Library Protocol Version: 35 Server Protocol Version: 35 Is Local: yes Client Index: 1334 Tile Size...

Re: pactl load-module denies knowledge of all entities
Okay, cool. I added the following to the script that runs for qjackctl's 'Execute script after Startup' event: echo "Trying" pactl load-module module-jack-sink channels=2 connect=no; pactl load-module module-jack-source channels=2 connect=no; pactl set-default-sink jack_out; echo "???...

pactl load-module denies knowledge of all entities
I'm just playing with trying to integrate pulseaudio and JACK for myself, and so I'm kind of interested in the pulseaudio module module-jackdbus-detect. Problem is, whatever module name I provide to pactl load-module, it always stonewalls me with Failure no such entity Entities that pactl load-modul...

Re: Use command line to start jack and set connections
@bobby.calamari: Do you want to post your script here? I like to start things w/ a shell script too. I'm curious how you've set Jack connections via the command line. :) Oh, sure. I have a Focusrite Scarlett 18i8 soundcard, so lots of inputs: #!/bin/bash echo "Setting up connections for genera...

Re: Use command line to start jack and set connections
:D I'm not sure how you could be more helpful! I've managed to get the post-startup script working from qjackctl now (I was blocked by the fact qjackctl gives you a GUI to choose a path to the script, then won't run it if it contains a space...) I will bookmark this for all your helpful tips. Thanks!

Re: Use command line to start jack and set connections
Okay, thank you so much for your quick reply. I think what you suggested has worked, but it just leads to a different problem: the JACK server has not finished initialising before the jack_connect commands run, so they fail. I need to either find a kind of callback from the JACK initialisation to ho...

Use command line to start jack and set connections
Hi everyone I hope this is the right place for this question. I would like to write a bash script which can start jack (or qjackctl; I'm not fussy) and set a bunch of connections. I know the commands to start jack or qjackctl and I know the commands to create JACK audio and ALSA MIDI connections. Th...

Re: Expanding inputs with the DP-88
Ha! I'm very sorry; I've not been back here in a bit.
I use the Scarlett OctoPre connected to the Scarlett 18i8. Works well.

Re: MIDI controllable drum machine
Cool, thanks for the tip.
I installed Drumgizmo yesterday but was a bit puzzled when I found there was no option to start it from Kubuntu's application menu. Is it not intended for standalone use?
