Re: Not great news... AV Linux Forum shutting down September 1st

Glen, After over thirty-five years of active work in open-source software, I can empathize completely with the need to lay down a support burden. Please know that your efforts supporting AVLinux are appreciated, and that we don't expect / need you to do any more than you are comfortable doing. Your ...

Re: Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 2nd Gen mixer driver

@geoffrey: Is there a better platform that we can do this on? Since you will be doing collaboartive software development, you could create a Github repository for[1] those files (along with a LICENSE, README, etc.) Folks who want to collaborate with you on the drive can then create their own forks, ...

Re: Problem in Ardour about midi bus connection?

FWIW, I've used a MIDI bus to track the three different channels for a 'setBFree' instrument (upper console, lower console, pedals) on separate MIDI tracks: each routed the MIDI output to the bus, which is where the 'setBFree' instrument was configured. This might not be needed for those careful / c...

Re: [solved] Focusrite Scarlett 18i8 1st gen, no sound.

The "internal mixer" on my 1st gen 18i8 resets to a "muted" state when it powers off. I wrote a Python script to dump and load the mixer config via a YAML file. It might be useful for your use case:

I'm glad you got it working! Wish I'd thought to suggest switching USB ports.

Re: Scarlett 6i6 not working

That is actually hopeful: ALSA can see your device and query its parameters. If you run a GUI like 'qasmixer', it should be able to see / set those properties as well.

With JACK still off, can you play music through the card using Rhythmbox / Parole / whatever?

Re: Scarlett 6i6 not working

Can you shut down Cadence / JACK and try poking at it via ALSA? E.g. for my 1st-gen 18i20: $ amixer -c USB controls numid=7,iface=MIXER,name='Master 1 (Monitor) Playback Switch' numid=8,iface=MIXER,name='Master 1 (Monitor) Playback Volume' ... numid=2,iface=MIXER,name='S/PDIF Validity' numid=227,ifa...

Dump Focusrite Scarlett intermal mixer to YAML (and load it back)

I picked up a used 1st generation Scarlett 18i20, and needed a way to persist my configuration (since the ALSA-based changes don't get written to the flash). I poked around with @x42's 'scarlett_mixer', and got it working by changing all his hardcoding to match the 18i20 values. I found that unsatis...

Re: Strange bug in Firefox with PulseAudio and Soundcloud

Can you comment out / remove the two options ('enable-remixing' and 'enable-lfe-remixing') from your config file? Also, on my machine (Ubuntu Xenial) the user-specific config files for the pulseaudio daemon would be located in ~/.config/pulse/daemon.conf or ~/.config/pulse/daemon.conf.d/*.conf .

Re: Scarlet 2i4 USB Audio Not Detected at Startup

I seem to be OK getting consistent input, but getting the device to output is still having issues that I have to replug in the device, and even then it just doesn't want to produce. MarkR, just a suspicion: is it Jack-based apps which don't give you output, or something else (e.g., Firefox)? Firefo...

Re: Clarinet sound test

I do hear some of the room, but it isn't an ugly sound. Rather than cranking the preamp on my interface to deal with quiet dynamic mics, I've recently enjoyed using the Simply Sound SS-1 inline preamp https://simplysound.co/product/ss-1-microphone-preamp/ Like the CloudLifter, it is powered from the...
