Pipewire issues with Zoom H1N
This is my second post about the H1N, this time I am on a fresh arch install with pipewire. If I have the H1N plugged in and I run bitwig, then bitwig hijacks all other sound from my computer. If I unplug the H1N then both the system audio and bitwig work fine. I'm using wireplumber with robbert's c...

Re: Zoom H1N not recognized as input by reaper or bitwig
you can use different devices with jack https://jackaudio.org/faq/multiple_devices.html or if you use qjackctl, go to advanced settings and select usb mic for input and onboard soundcard for output: YES, this worked, my deepest thanks. I'm ashamed I didn't catch that by myself, but to be fair the w...

It's not trolling if it's not a solution. I just tested it to satisfy your ego, and the sound comes out of the h1n, which is obviously not want I want.

Re: Zoom H1N not recognized as input by reaper or bitwig
So audio out via your sound card and microphone in at the same time is out of the question on a computer. I think your information is quite outdated, I can do this just fine with pipewire, so it's definitely not a OS-wide limitation, nor I suspect it would be a limitation on windows, though i haven...

Re: Zoom H1N not recognized as input by reaper or bitwig
I'm afraid that you may not understand how one uses an "audio server" like JackAudio. Jack is started for one specific "interface" (I think you mean audio device when you write "interface"). Like the Zoom H1N or the on-board audio card/audio device of your computrer. Q...

Re: Zoom H1N not recognized as input by reaper or bitwig
What @tseaver said. And my two cents. If you want to use Jackaudio and you're sure that your DAW of choice is configured to use Jack then before starting Jack you must determine the number of your audio device. I do that like this: cat /proc/asound/cards Example of output: 0 [CMI8738 ]: CMI8738-MC6...

Re: Zoom H1N not recognized as input by reaper or bitwig
My guess would be that the H1N is not the interface Jack is managing: it likely grabs the onboard soundcard of your motherboard by default. Discord likely finds the mic (which has a built-in USB interface) via PulseAudio. Can you run QJackCtl and look to see what interface it thinks Jack is using? ...

Zoom H1N not recognized as input by reaper or bitwig
Hi, I'm on arch linux, currently using jack. The mic is recognized by the system, I can use it on discord just fine. But on bitwig, my main DAW, it does not show up as an option to add as input bus. I have tried switching to pipewire, and it actually solves this particular issue, but it causes other...

Using sustain pedal as another instrument
Basically I want to be able to play some drum parts with feet, is there a way to program something to be able to do that? Or would I need a separate pedal?

Re: [Help] me choose a soundcard
Thanks for the detailed response.
The midi keyboard connects to the pc via USB, in my confusion I didn't think of that.
The ID4 looks very neat but outside my budget atm (same price as 2i2), mostly because I also want to get a portable recorder and that costs about the same.

[Help] me choose a soundcard
I've been looking around and it seems there's 3 options available: - Scarlett 2i2: seems to be widely recommended, but it's expensive (for me) - Behringer UMC22: some good reviews, almost half the price of the other two - Behringer UM204hd: expensive, but has midi ports As far as instruments go, I o...

Connections/settings persisting through sleep
I was playing with setBfree last night. I put my computer to sleep and turned off the MIDI keyboard cause it has an annoying light. Today I wake my computer up and turn on the keyboard. There was no combination of connections under qjackctl that would make the controller play setBfree. I had to clos...

Some fonts produce don't produce sound when loaded with fluidsynth through terminal
Some fonts load fine, others give this warning: No preset found on channel X (0 to 16) [bank=0 prog=0] If I load these same files with the fluidsynth GUI with calfjackhost they play sound just fine without having to do anything, but I have a script to launch different instruments automatically, and ...

Re: Why learn music theory?
What got me interested in this rabbit hole is the question, could strong AI make music that is virtually indistinguishable from human written music. Does it matter? This could mean that an AI is as good as writing the shittiest music a human could make. I think the music itself could be more intere...

Portable setup for recording natural sounds
Hi, I'm wondering if anyone knows what's good hardware for recording sounds in the wild. I imagine that for about the price of a phone you could get a good mic with some form of storage for recording very high quality audio, but I don't know anything about what would make a piece of hardware good. A...
