Re: (free) xfaded brass for Virtual Playing Orchestra

Using cc7 to control volume works along with the DXF on cc1, but even maxed out the volume is too low. Now that you mention it, that makes sense. For the french-horn-SEC-PERF.sfz, file, cc7 would need to be configured to provide a max volume increase of 24db because to get good dynamic range out of...

Re: Make SFZ respond to MIDI program change?

Looking through the 1.0 sfz spec, it doesn't look like there is any opcode to handle a program change message. Without some intervening plugin to convert a program change message to a CC message I don't see how it would work. It looks like you can get a group/articulation to only respond to a specif...

Re: (free) xfaded brass for Virtual Playing Orchestra

To get both the volume and crossfade to change, try moving both the mod wheel and whatever controls cc7. By default cc7 should control volume. I could also make a change to the -DXF patches so that both the mod wheel (for those not using linuxsampler) and cc11, (for those using linuxsampler) control...

Re: Philharmonia Orch. Samples!

such sounds should be converted to the right wav or aiff format ? Converting from mp3 to wav or aiff won't improve the sound quality. It will simply preserve the quality of the mp3. hello nilshi and thanks for the additional information, I will avoid using this material until it is clearly defined ...

Re: Philharmonia Orch. Samples!

Self-contradiction much? What the hell. It's worth noting this from a clause in the Creative Commons Licenses: "No additional restrictions — You may not apply legal terms or technological measures that legally restrict others from doing anything the license permits." So it seems to me tha...

Re: (free) 2.2 Virtual Playing Orchestra

I've encountered it with 1st violins section and solo flute. I don't know the notes. That narrows it down a little but I can't debug this if I don't know the notes. The problem you are reporting does not happen for me (with Sforzando and Windows 10) so I can only look at the .sfz files for specific...

Re: (free) 2.2 Virtual Playing Orchestra

Also, "accent" instruments seems to be broken in LinuxSampler, the sustain part doesn't stop after a few notes as if there was no Note Off event. If you can name a specific note in a specific .sfz file I can take a look at it. Are there any accent notes that work properly? Do the notes fr...

Re: (free) 2.2 Virtual Playing Orchestra

Nope, you use SFZ files from No Budget Orchestra and those are CC-BY-SA, therefore your edited versions of them are CC-BY-SA too and I can distribute them commercially. Looks like you are right about the license so I've updated my web site but I still state my opinion that I feel it would be wrong ...

Re: Question samples tones

If all you are doing is re-using a sample for it's actual tone and a semi-tone away, then I'd say, it's better to go high for the reasons you said (though you might not really hear any difference in quality whether you go low or high). So use a G sample as a G and a G#, but if you are using a G samp...

Re: (free) xfaded brass for Virtual Playing Orchestra

My next guess is that linuxsampler doesn't permit the mod wheel to control more than one thing at a time. If these commands from the .sfz file don't work together:

xfin_locc1=64
xfin_hicc1=127
gain_cc1=24

... or simply this

gain_cc1=24

... doesn't work, then you'd get the result you're hearing.

By default, I'd expect the mod wheel to send CC01 messages. If your mod wheel doesn't do that for some reason, then it won't work.

Re: (free) xfaded brass for Virtual Playing Orchestra

I'm pretty sure it was Brass/french-horn-SEC-normal-DXF.sfz. I don't have my keyboard right now so i can't recheck. Ah. So it's not all the samples that are too quiet. This makes sense now. For the -DXF patches, the Mod wheel adjusts the volume and cross fade. The default setting for -DXF files is ...

Re: (free) xfaded brass for Virtual Playing Orchestra

Btw why is it so quiet? I've loaded them in LinuxSampler and at 100% volume I get -21dB compared to -4db from Sonatina. The samples shouldn't be that quiet. Name an exact .sfz file and I'll take a look. So far, no one else has noticed the samples being too quiet. I'm wondering if it could be someth...
