Re: Fluidsynth Process Mysteriously (Sometimes) Starting at Boot

FWIW, I recently noticed this (again) and decided... bye bye, "sudo apt-get remove fluidsynth"

Re: Ubuntu Studio support methods, current situation?

Good tip about plasmashell... I'll have to set that up... well... after reinstalling EVERYTHING. I saw that Plasma 5.27 ships with Ubuntu 22.10, so I upgraded. Big mistake. The desktop is hopelessly laggy, can't even open Chrome. I'm typing this on my old machine. At this point I'll have to go with ...

Re: Ubuntu Studio support methods, current situation?

... and, there's a hard reboot because the window manager stopped responding to mouse clicks or any typing at all (probably a bug in the JACK studio controls app... which is another thing where "bugs are fixed in the latest version" but there is no way to get a newer version). I'll omit th...

Re: Ubuntu Studio support methods, current situation?

I follow the project without using it (which is just a few bunch of people, quite a little project) through their mailing lists : https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-studio-users https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-studio-devel I see regularly bug reports here, please try....

Re: Ubuntu Studio support methods, current situation?

Switch to "AV Linux". The guy who puts it together is always around here helping people work out any problems they encounter. Cool, perhaps my next OS install. I just set up this machine within the past 4 months, not eager to reinstall everything. Generally it's a pretty smooth experience...

Ubuntu Studio support methods, current situation?

I'm wondering what are the current best options for questions/problems with Ubuntu Studio. Ubuntu Studio pages recommend askubuntu. This seems to be hit or miss, however. I recall a few questions that I asked that never got any response. Maybe some of the questions did (I don't remember at this poin...

aj-snapshot: How to suppress info/error messages

I've just started using aj-snapshot to connect Rack automatically to the JACK hardware outputs. Here's the problem -- it needs to run in a terminal window, so a lot of information messages get posted. Connection and disconnection messages are not too bad (kind of useful to see them, and they can be ...

Confused about latency vs buffer size vs data availability

Hi, Not a concrete tuning question -- something I've been confused about for a while. latency = block size * periods / sample rate. But I've been trying to understand the data flow. 1. Mic/line input coming into the ADC. 2. Communication A: Input block --> driver, output block --> DAC. 3. Computer c...

Re: Audio config: ALSA not playing out to built-in HW

It's with some embarrassment that I have to report: In fact, sound was muted in alsamixer, but I was confused because the faders were up. That was pretty dumb. I hadn't noticed because I didn't use "M" before.

So... never mind. It's working now.

Thanks for the advice.

Re: Audio config: ALSA not playing out to built-in HW

I don't know what goes wrong exactly with your configuration, but, to get rid of Turn off PA auto-start: add to /etc/pulse/client.conf: autospawn = no and daemon-binary = /bin/true. and integrate pulse smooth within jack over qjackctl, this one may be of some help: https://github.com/brummer10/paja...

Audio config: ALSA not playing out to built-in HW

Hi, haven't been around in a while, but having a little problem. Last week, I installed Ubuntu Studio 16.04. (Previously, I was on plain Ubuntu 14.04.) Current state: Audio is working as I want it to, for USB soundcards. The laptop's built-in soundcard is not pumping any audio out. GOAL: I want all ...

Re: linuxsampler "Not a RIFF file" error

And... how about using the Fantasia front-end, which has an "Engine" widget per channel. Beautiful. OK, it seems to be all right there. Somehow I had an idea that Fantasia was "for Windows" but nah, it's just better. It's playing notes, so... off I go. Thanks for the hints! That'...
