For mixed audio and midi tracks, one of Ardour, Qtractor, or Reaper might work well for you.

What kind of music are you making? Would you have more of a focus on recorded audio, or midi tracks?

If you have graphic design skills, that would help because I'm not great at that. Other than that, maybe one of these days you can test a beta release of a saturation plugin that I'm making.

I wish I had started on the Atari ST, but as a 7-year-old kid I only wondered what those five-pin circles were on the back, and then went back to playing my games. Years later, with a 486 50mHz machine, my parents bought a midi keyboard and MusicTime.

Done and done. I fixed "Kick Free".
I investigated the hihat splash samples, and found that they were recorded that way. I don't know why they turned out so quiet, but I agree with your assessment so I increased the volume by 8dB gain.
