Re: Connecting a synth to my laptop ?

Maybe you "need" the alsamixer only to change from 44100 to 48000 and from 16 bit to 24 bit, everything else can be controlled on the interface itself.
48000 Hz and 24 bit I would adjust then.

Re: Connecting a synth to my laptop ?

According to http://libremusicproduction.com/articles/understanding-recording-hardware <EDIT>and https://alsa-project.org/wiki/Matrix:Vendor-Tascam</EDIT> the hardware is supported.
Alsamixer is for setting.

Computers which are fully Linux capable

Possibly interesting for users who want to buy a fully Linux capable computer. Also to see which components and compilations are Linux compatible or ~meaningful. Generally all - or many - components work. Exception: With the very latest hardware there can be problems at the beginning because the app...

Re: Connecting a synth to my laptop ?

Alsamixer is a console software which is installed by default.
As long as you can/will configure the audio/MIDI interface or there is no extra software for the audio/MIDI interface.

Re: Connecting a synth to my laptop ?

:D Settings of the audio/MIDI interface are done via alsamixer https://linux.die.net/man/1/alsamixer, with "alsactl store" (as root) https://linux.die.net/man/1/alsactl you save your settings.

No, I'm not in. Psychotronic is the guest.
@"Linux vs. Audio" I don't know. Maybe because Linux & Audio isn't so well known yet in 2019?

Possibly try to use only console programs for audio because the graphics card, ... and the RAM is very limited.

Re: Behringer UMC1820 ADAT IO not working

Have you checked with alsamixer https://linux.die.net/man/1/alsamixer what can be set in your audio/MIDI interface?
(Save correct settings with "alsactl store" https://linux.die.net/man/1/alsactl.)
