Re: Bitwig Studio 3.0 is out now.

While still having no idea about why MIDI controllers could be used to control both soft synths inside a DAW and other things at the same time that are outside of the DAW, I'd say that for the CV part, it should be working under Linux as I haven't seen any warnings from Bitwig that it does not, for...

Re: Upgrade UbuntuStudio 16.04 to 18.04 repositories?

I didn't have to disable PPA when I dist-upgraded from Debian-9 to Debian-10 with the KXStudio repositories.

Re: Bitwig Studio 3.0 is out now.

That exclusive MIDI use can be a drawback in some setups although I wonder how many of those setups do exist, where one plays a synth in Bitwig using a MIDI controller and at the same time wants to play another soft synth that's not in Bitwig, with the same controller. Maybe some grid controller (L...

Re: Upgrade UbuntuStudio 16.04 to 18.04 repositories?

I had several successful dist-upgrades - from Debian-9 to Debian-10 with the KXStudio repositories installed (If you're using a system newer or equal to Debian 9 (Stretch) or Ubuntu 16.04 (Xenial) you'll also need to enable GCC5 packages.) - made on my computers, description: see signature.

Re: Bitwig Studio 3.0 is out now.

I haven't found any MIDI inputs/outputs function in Bitwig nor do I see any Bitwig MIDI I/O in qjackctl (a2jmidid - neither in jack nor alsa). At the first start I thought I saw a MIDI I/O from Bitwig in qjackctl. This was probably a mistake or I may have now a wrong Bitwig setting. Maybe it is also...

Re: Do you want more people to use Linux for music?

I am happy when people use more GNU/Linux and over time understand the logical reasons and internalize them and then live. Music has something to do with "freedom"! IMHO . But that is also the problem: freedom. There is no "the chef", "the way", "the distribution&q...

Re: Having trouble setting up JACK and my VSTs with Bitwig on Manjaro

Since a system update from Debian I switch off Pulseaudio as described here: Pulseaudio and JACK >> https://linuxmusicians.com/viewtopic.php?p=103154#p103154 Jack without pulseaudio: In qjackctl Setup: ⋅  Setup >> Options > [X] Execute script at startup: "systemctl --user stop pulseau...

Re: Bitwig Studio 3.0 is out now.

MIDI with or in jack? In qjackctl Bitwig has been recognized. Test yourself. Download Bitwig demo. Unpack "bitwig-studio-3.0.deb", unpack "data.tar.xz" and click on "Bitwig-3.0/opt/bitwig-studio/bitwig-studio" to start Bitwig without installing. But in Bitwig Settings/A...

Re: GoboLinux

Ugah! :-D I hadn't known anything about the distribution and its completely different approach so far. Only through your hint http://mixbus.harrisonconsoles.com/forum/thread-7780-post-44763.html#pid44763 . I like Gentoo because of the "make.conf" and the "USE flags" because they ...

GoboLinux

Does anyone use https://www.gobolinux.org/, https://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=gobo?
Since this distribution is ~utterly different, I'd like to know more about it, especially with regard to audio.

Actually, I first signed up for the wiki, since it seems contributions are welcome, in order to add the link, but the password email came in completely blank (same thing after trying to get the wiki to send a new password). @raboof can you tell us how a user can edit the wiki? Thank you. Or write r...

Re: KX Studio at the End of Standard Support - what now?

You can take any distribution if it includes the KXStudio repositories ( https://kx.studio/Repositories ) / packages (for example https://www.archlinux.org/packages/community/x86_64/carla/ , https://gpo.zugaina.org/media-sound/carla , ...). See for example here: GNU/Linux Debian installing >> Linux ...

Re: Best current Ubuntu for KXStudio

That's great! So you didn't uminstall anything and left also the kxstudio repo in the source list? Yes. I had not installed any packages from the backports in Debian Stretch. I would not update with a system relevant package from the backports such as a kernel. I would always boot and update with t...
