PD (Pure Data) crashes when unplugging USB MIDI device
I asked about this in the PD forums as well, so hello to any regular readers of both sites... I only yesterday noticed that unplugging a USB MIDI device that PD (Pure Data) is currently using as an input/output device will kill PD with a segmentation fault. I don't think this used to happen (and som...

Re: Carla not saving cache
Ah ha, exACTly the sort of helpful first-hand anecdote I was hoping for. Thank you, @LAM, for your perspective! I shall join you in less-cutting-edge Carla'ing.

Carla not saving cache
I've been using Carla for some years now, but only recently have I had this problem: Every time I start Carla, when I add my first plugin, it has to scan for new plugins... and it thinks they're all new. If I stop it early, they're mostly unfound. Have 28 Internal, 511 LADSPA, 17 DSSI, 645 LV2, 0 VS...

Re: best way to put lv2 in home folder (on Arch)
Thanks B2Zqa . I hadn't really considered reinstalling, just resizing, but you're right - that's a better idea. I regret making a separate root partition (and regret even more making it only 30GB). I'm not even sure why I did it... it's always mentioned as a possible good method, but it's never help...

Re: best way to put lv2 in home folder (on Arch)
Interesting thoughts, everyone, thanks. I haven't had problems yet with having moved my LV2s, but yeah, I can see how that's not the wisest course. sysrqer yes it is EXT4; I've been nervous about resizing my root, or is that not what you mean when you say "removing the reserved space"? My ...

best way to put lv2 in home folder (on Arch)
Sorry this is so Arch-specific, and noob-y. Can't figure out the best folks to ask... I made my root directory a little small, it appears. To free up some space, I moved my VSTs and LV2s to my home folder (.vst and .lv2). It's quite simple, every time pacman updates any LV2s, I just rsync -a /usr/li...

Re: Carla and Claudia patchbays don't remember positions
d.healey I think that's not an "earlier versions" issue, but something to do with... uh, the way Jack was built? I'm not sure, I'm not competent enough with the internal workings of Linux audio, but I have that same issue with a recent AVLinux installation, but not my Arch installation on...

Re: getting lots of xruns while sitting idle
By gum, that's exactly it, GMaq ! Yes it is Broadcom; I just turned it off and ran about 45 minutes Xrun free with Reaper, Supercollider, some VSTS, etc... Thank you! I am slightly ashamed, in my research I HAD seen wi-fi as a possible culprit, but I skipped that. I think I forgot I never ran a 50 f...

getting lots of xruns while sitting idle
I apologize for asking for the same advice most every time I post. But you can't step in the same river twice. I got a used desktop with decent specs, I think, for 2013. But I can't get audio/Jack as smooth as my similarly-aged laptop. As the title suggests, I can start accumulating xruns while doin...

Re: advice for nvidia card sufferer
sunrat boy is there egg on my face. Just your mentioning that the 460.xx driver doesn't work on the newest kernel pointed me in the right direction - I'd been trying to get 460.xx to install. I must have neglected the export IGNORE_PREEMPT_RT_PRESENCE=1 when I'd tried 470.xx. Anyway, 470.xx works i...

Re: advice for nvidia card sufferer
sunrat - I don't know if we're in the same boat, really, but you seem like a good person to ask. After a recent MXLinux (aka AVL-MXE) update, my nVidia driver config (it was 460.xxx) got messed up somehow. I was never able to get it going again with the RT kernel (using your patented EXPORT command...

Re: Carla, Jack, and AVL - build problem?
Hi varpa - what you're describing is exactly my situation. But it's supposed to be better! You should be able to open the plugins from the Patch Bay tab (the same two options you get on the Rack tab, with the gear and the wrench). Also, the "piano" should be playable, playing whatever synt...

Re: Carla, Jack, and AVL - build problem?
Thanks GMaq, and that makes sense... I sort of thought it was at a non-AVL level, ie, Debian or MX or Jack. That leaves me with two questions, one for the good of the community, and one for the good of me. Should I report this upstream somewhere? MX or Debian? Seems like it's Debian, based on the li...

Carla, Jack, and AVL - build problem?
A little ditty bout Jack and Debian: I am running AVL-MXE on a new-to-me computer. Carla (the current version, 2.3.2, but 2.3.1 as well) has an issue where the Patchbay tab lacks its usual functionality (the piano keyboard doesn't work, and GUI and editing options don't come up when right- or double...

Re: advice for nvidia card sufferer
Another update, because why not: When I completed the job of apt remove 'ing the old nVidia files, SuperCollider again wouldn't load. I sort of knew I was in a blessed state of delicately balanced packages, that was susceptible to the slightest breeze... So I followed MX Linux guide to revert to Nou...
