Re: Thread for AV Linux 2020.4.10 Issues

@sirjohndfox @GMaq It's the damndest thing! Two-finger scroll works all of a sudden! I guess something in a recent update? My touchpad is properly identified as "ETPS/2 Elantech Touchpad." Huzzah!

Re: Thread for AV Linux 2020.4.10 Issues

@GMaq @sirjohndfox Drat, I knew it couldn't be that easy... I tried, but it's the same. My "Mouse and Touchpad" in Settings Manager still identifies my touchpad as "PS2/Generic Mouse," and I think that's part of the issue.

Re: Thread for AV Linux 2020.4.10 Issues

I'd like to add to the chorus of enthusiastic approval for AVL2020 + GMaq. Thanks, it's great, and the manual is perfect. I am having - and HAVE had - the same problem as sirjohndfox . It's been a thorn in my side for a few years now, since I started using AVL in 2018. Basically, the two-finger scro...

Re: general guidance with CPU governors, etc

Thanks for the ideas, everybody. CrocoDuck , I don't believe I've changed anything from the default TLP settings. JamesPeters , I don't see "indicator-cpufreq" in my Debian repo; maybe it's only Ubuntu? I'm running a similar panel applet, but the changes I make don't seem to actually take effect (ma...

general guidance with CPU governors, etc

This is a general-purpose question, from someone not very familiar with the inner workings of computers. I'm getting concerned about my laptop burning up. I'm running AVLinux2017. I also have TLP installed (bad idea?). Nothing is terrible right now, but I'm just trying to get a grasp on the ins and ...

Re: iZotope Product Portal installation fails

I don't want to be a naysayer, but I had a similar experience and I couldn't figure out a solution. It was a shame, as the plugin worked fine (enough) under WINE, but I couldn't get it authorized. I reached out to both iZotope and the vendor I'd bought it from; no luck, so I got a refund.

Re: Acon Digital restoration software?

The lord helps those who help themselves. In case anyone's curious, and looking for a Linux-authorizable (and cheaper) Izotope RX alternative, this authorizes just fine, and seems to work well. I'm not saying it's professional level - it seems great to me, but I'm not a professional. I don't really ...

Acon Digital restoration software?

Have any of you tried installing/buying anything from Acon Digital? I'm successfully running their VST plugin Restoration Suite, and I may need it for a project... but I've tried some software from Izotope before, which ran just fine (under WINE) on my Linux computer (my only computer), but wouldn't...

Re: New plugin without name - ideas welcome

Or, in a nod to Henry Kaiser's similar(?) technique from the 70s, you could call it B.SquareWaveModulationOfTheClockRateOfLongDelayTimes

Yes, that's what you should call it.

BShapr and Carla

I've been enjoying BShapr (and its staccato sibling BSlizr). If you're wondering what those are, see here: https://www.linuxmusicians.com/viewtopic.php?t=19969 . But BShapr has an irksome quirk when I use it in Carla (though not in Ardour/Mixbus). Here, let me just paste in my comment from the githu...

Re: I messed up my WINE

Geez, you were completely right! There were new updates today, I ran "winecfg," and that fixed everything. In my rush to blame myself, I didn't pause to think that it might not have been my own doing!

Thanks, and sorry for the panicked false alarm.

I messed up my WINE

Somehow I seem to have really messed up my WINE installation. I've had it running with no problems for a few years, but today I botched everything. I'm using AVLinux2016. I did a standard Synaptic "Mark All Upgrades," but some WINE packages didn't download. I didn't think much of it, tried to open s...

Re: rate my xruns: tuning assistance?

Oh yeah.... Math! 192 buffer size makes PD, SuperCollider, and the interface all very happy indeed. Thank you, @merlyn... in the back of my mind, I knew I needed to remember high school, and a Lowest Common Multiple. I wish I had better than 8ms latency, but I'll just change my settings whenever I'm...

Re: rate my xruns: tuning assistance?

@lilith - yes, my results (with non-power-of-two frames/buffer sizes) are fairly reproducible. Some variation of course, but nothing as crazy as your 20% occurrences. Of course, now I'm afraid to run at 96 or 144 frames/buffer, since at least two programs (PureData & SuperCollider) don't seem to lik...

Re: rate my xruns: tuning assistance?

Well here's a wrench in my well-oiled laptop... Apparently Supercollider and PD don't like my fancy new frames/period sizes at all! Simple sine waves are very distorted - and they're fine when I go back to powers-of-two. I only just discovered this. I haven't yet done much to delve into the issue, j...
