Re: A good jack-compatible audio player who stays connected to the outputs I want?
I fixed this in VLC with the Advanced Preferences > Audio > JACK > "Connect to clients matching" and typed the name of the pair I wanted to use from Catia. I omitted the L/R and just copied the rest of it: "0001f200000188c0_pbk_Phones" so it maps the output to those two channels.

Re: Ubuntu Studio or KUbuntu for PPA installation?
How should I do to install a RT kernel? What most people use is a low-latency kernel. IIRC what I did was filter packages in Muon with the search string "kernel". That shows you what is installed, and what other options there are. Other package managers mostly work in a similar way. I sel...

Re: KXStudio 18.04 Testing
I have installed the b1.iso with hopes of trying it out, maybe learning about the tweaks falktx has been making compared to just using the repos on the site with stock Neon. Unfortunately, I haven't gotten very far. To start finding my way around, I used apt-get to install krusader, but that has bro...

Re: The Everything Songwriting Book: Can Lyrics Be Skipped?
It always puzzles me how many people equate "songs" with music. Even a drum machine might refer to conjoined structures as being a song. To me, a song means... people singing. I guess it could be dismissed as mere semantic nitpicking, but it always comes up because I like music, but typica...

Re: Why learn music theory?
I have typically gotten nowhere with music theory. With every book or video, I get as far as the conventions of notation, what notes and chords are, the basic structures. But where it all falls apart for me is how it is supposed to work, and why. It very much relates to wolftune's remarks, that what...

Thank you so much! I was just puzzling over the crashes trying to get my Reaktor extras loaded.

Thanks for the tips! I had to take a break from troubleshooting this for a few days, but will be resuming it this week.

Re: KXStudio 18.04 Testing
Neon is testing upgrades to 18.04. Working... smooth-ish. Only issue so far seems to be fixing my PPAs and other sources.

Re: Just ONE xrun, and VSTs crash my audio
Just because it is easy to do I would recommend perhaps first booting in to the regular low latency kernel and testing. If that is better then install the nvidia drivers. Either way, I don't think you want to be running nouveau. The system wasn't installed with the rt kernel, it initially had a van...

Re: Just ONE xrun, and VSTs crash my audio
I doubt it is the source of the problem but be very wary of making music with Nouveau, it doesn't deal with real time audio very well at all. The reason I installed Nouveau is that I read in numerous places that the official proprietary Nvidia Linux graphics drivers don't function right with real-t...

Re: Just ONE xrun, and VSTs crash my audio
He already said it is not a crash, just audio misbehaving. I had a similar case on a soundcard that is not properly supported in the kernel. The audio would sound horrible after an xrun occurs, and take a long time to recover. Well, in my case, by "noise" I mean that there is no longer an...

Just ONE xrun, and VSTs crash my audio
Hello! I have been mostly lurking here. Recently I set up a new Neon/KX partition just for audio. No home encryption, 4.16.12-rt5--avi1 kernel. Running realtimeconfigquickscan to get everything feeling pretty tight. I can run MIDI stuff fine and some audio, with just occasional dropouts. But I can't...

Re: Next release kx studio (curiosity)
I got a new laptop recently (offered by work company) and I've been trying KDE neon on it (based on 16.04). I was a little disappointed with kubuntu, but kde neon had me impressed. I just installed KDE neon 5.8.7 myself, and like it so far. My system had been running Mint 17.x with KXStudio, but my...

Re: Wacom Tablets
I did this with a friend's Wacom years ago using Max/MSP on a Mac. The only fiddly part in Linux might be getting drivers configured . Then I'd use a toolbox environment such as Pure Data to make a Wacom MIDI translator patch - I'd be astonished if there wasn't already a Pd object for parsing Wacom ...

Re: transition everything to Discourse
I am but a mere noob, but I far prefer the BBS layout here instead of Discourse. Discourse wastes a lot of space on my screen which makes it a chore for me to use, and IMO most of its features seem kind of frivolous.
