nikgnomicradio wrote:maybe if started JACK with dummy device, then alsa_in and alsa_out commands to load ALSA device
would that allow ALSA device to be removed and replaced later without disturbing JACK ?

Instead of alsa_in and alsa_out, jack_load could be used.

Re: Extend window over two workspaces?

(2) This was a deal breaker. I don't understand this but opening the mixer even if it wasn't visible made Xorg cpu usage go up. This also happens on i3wm but to a lesser extent. 30% on i3wm versus 70% on FVWM. (According to htop so the percentages are of one core.) Oh that is pity. So only availabl...

Re: Thank-a-developer day

I'd like to thank myself for putting up with you annoying endusers of my software. If you really want to please developers, then forget about the thanks, and instead buy us some Mountain Dew soda and pizza. Just leave it at the front door, ring the doorbell, and leave. We don't like being forced to...

Re: Extend window over two workspaces?

I had separately controllable virtual desktops on each screen. I was looking at the FVWM FAQ and I saw this : http://www.fvwm.org/documentation/faq/#i-have-a-multi-head-setup-multiple-screens-used-under-x-how-can-i-tell-fvwm-to-use-different-configurations-for-the-screens Is that what you were talk...

Re: Yo, What's Up Everyone? MC Josiah here!!! New to Linux music production!!!

Thanks!!! Yea I know it's outdated & stuff but it runs on my laptop. I'm thinking of giving Ubuntu Studio 19.04 a try again. Last time I tired it, it kept freezing at install. Even Lubuntu alone would freeze so I had to use the alternative ISO when I installed Lubuntu on it. If your laptop is b...

Re: Yo, What's Up Everyone? MC Josiah here!!! New to Linux music production!!!

The reason I went with KXStudio instead of Ubuntu Studio was cause my laptop was too slow to run Ubuntu Studio & I don't know how to set up Lubuntu properly for music production yet so after digging around & alot of trial & error I found KXStudio to be the best version of Linux for my l...

Awesome. Haven't got all the fvwm stuff there, it is really different. Tiling modes are totally different from my previous idea 'I decide what size & where are my windows'.

Re: Extend window over two workspaces?

FVWM has been described elesewhere as 'pathologically configurable' and I've been down that rabbit hole for the past couple of days. :D I was using it something like 20 years, until support for separate X screen on each display (without xinerama) disappeared. Until that point, I had separately cont...

Re: Current state of Linux singing synths?

should be this one: https://github.com/MTG/WGANSing I've had a go with this, and I have it installed, but I'm still struggling to get it working. I'll report back on the thread if I get anywhere with it. For me, even first step 'pip install' does not work. utf8-interpy does not exist, and vamp inst...

Re: New KXStudio repos on an old 16.04?

The reason I am postponing the upgrade to 18.04 is because I am in a middle of a project, so wouldn't want to waste days in system configuration. Reason more, I have some apps that I depend on(like Gnome subtitles) which are not available in 18.04. Now big question is: do you actually need somethin...

Re: Current state of Linux singing synths?

I keep seeing references to something called "A Neural Parametric Singing Synthesizer" (https://mtg.github.io/singing-synthesis-demos/). The demos of this sound amazing, but I keep going around in circles trying to find out if this is a runnable application or just a research project. (De...
