Re: Focusrite Scarlett 18i6: input works; no headphone / monitor output

No Problem. I have a general question about this 18i6: why does it not have an on/off switch? I use to have a presonus Audiobox, and that also had no on/off but it was totally bus powered. This box plugs into the wall, so even if I disconnect it from the computer, or turn off the computer, the box i...

Re: Focusrite Scarlett 18i6: input works; no headphone / monitor output

Thanks so much for your help. You were totally right: alsamixer showed that the monitor and headphone outputs were muted for no apparent reason. I had run alsamixer before and saw that I had volume for these channels, but I didn't notice the [M] under the volume. Navigating to these channels and typ...

Re: Focusrite Scarlett 18i6: input works; no headphone / monitor output

Thanks for the reply. No, it's the opposite: I'm plugged into the Audio interface, not the laptop. Unless I misunderstood your question.

Focusrite Scarlett 18i6: input works; no headphone / monitor output

I'm not sure what happened. I'm running Ubuntu 20.04, and I have this Scarlett audio interface, the computer sees it, I can record into my DAW with it from a mic or guitar cable, but when I play back the audio, I can't get a sound in my headphones or in the monitor---even if the output knob is turne...

Re: Make Jack start when Cadence starts

Thanks for the reply. I'm happy just running

Code: Select all

jack_control start & cadence
. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Make Jack start when Cadence starts

Hi, I'm actually running Ubuntu with a lowlatency kernel, but I have the KXStudio repos enabled. Anyway, I would like Jack to start when Cadence starts. I see an option to start Jack on Login, but I don't want it to start when I log in -- only when I start Cadence. The only reason I start Cadence is...

Re: Performance actually better with internal sound card(?)

In case anyone else is having similar problems: my Presonus Audiobox is a USB 2.0 device. It doesn't work properly in a USB 3.0 outlet. I tried disabling USB 3 in my BIOS, but for some reason it didn't work. So I bought a small USB 2.0 hub, and the problem is no resolved. Thanks, all, for your help.

Re: Performance actually better with internal sound card(?)

Thanks for the reply, sadko4u. I have an -rt kernel, but I found lowlatency to be more stable, so I use that. I have set my IRQ priority to favor USB, and I have disabled CPU scaling when Jack runs, so all four CPUs use 'performance'. I only have two usb outlets and they're on the same bus, so I don...

Re: Performance actually better with internal sound card(?)

Oh, I should mention that Cadence recognizes my HDMI port as a possible input device. Would HDMI be a better input than USB? Is that even a possibility?

Re: Performance actually better with internal sound card(?)

Thanks for the reply. My computer doesn't have a firewire port, so I'm afraid I'm stuck with USB. That said, the midisport/internal sound card combo works very well, and the midisport is USB. To follow up on my last post: When I use my external card as the input, my internal as the output, leave the...

Performance actually better with internal sound card(?)

Hello, I recently realized that my DAW performs better, at lower latency, when I just use my stock sound card. I'm hoping to get your advice on a few things. I will list my specs at the bottom of this post. Normally, I plug my external sound card into one USB slot, then connect my MIDI keyboard to t...

Thanks so much for the reply. I must not have set up my notifications properly, because I didn't know there was a response. Anyway, thanks for the prompt explanation.

qjackctl latency vs cadence 'block latency'

Hi, I have noticed that the same settings show different latency in qjackctl and cadence. For instance, qjackctl will show 8ms of latency, and the same settings will show 5.33ms of latency in cadence. However, whether I start Jack with qjackctl or cadence, The latency definitely feels the same when ...
