Re: Akai Professional EIE....

Installed all the Planet CCMRA packages. That did the trick. Timemachine is installed. On this drive. Two more to go. What I add or modify to one, I do to all.

Now, to follow the remainder of your suggestions. Thanks a bunch.

Re: Akai Professional EIE....

Thanks for the many suggestions. Gives me some things to try this week. This morning, I was having trouble trying to get an installation of Timemachine to work (Fedora 22). I found and downloaded the .rpm file, and tried several times to install it using the Software tool in Fedora. Appears to get a...

Re: Akai Professional EIE....

The only new microphone that I have is an MXL R-159 Ribbon mic. It is clear, and seems to work well with voice. However, most of the highs coming from my test amp are cut. Still clear, but not what I would like. I have a number of old microphones. I tried an American D-4-T and a D-8. The D-4-T was t...

Re: Akai Professional EIE....

Had just enough time yesterday afternoon, late, to connect the ribbon mic and give it a test. Started JACK and Audacity, and started the monitor. Set the gain on Channel 1 to 12 o'clock and the Master Volume to the same. Spoke into the mic 'testing', from 12-18" away. Output on the monitor jump...

Re: Akai Professional EIE....

I feel a bit foolish. Talking to a friend who does all his studio work in a Windows environment, he grinned at me when I posed the question(s) to him. He simply stated 'plug your male XLR connector into the jack'. At first, I didn't think that he was talking about my input jack. Then, it came to me....

Re: Akai Professional EIE....

I have other questions about my EIE. Because I'm only use to vintage equipment, the I/O on this interface is a bit confusing. On the front, there are 4 combination XLR - 1/4" TRS inputs. As I haven't found a schematic (only the quick-start manual), I don't know how these connections are configu...

Re: Akai Professional EIE....

Thanks for the link. I'll go back and pick that thread apart. Had not considered an isolation box. I may have to resort to padding a closet, as I have too many amps of varied sizes. Some are rather large. But, now I'm on a parallel track with this. I'll post my progress on both, now. Thanks again. H...

Re: Akai Professional EIE....

Update: 09Jan16 Cleared a small bench out in my shop, and set up my equipment. The computer out here has a mini-itx motherboard with an Intel i5 processor, and 8G of RAM. Hard drive is a 250G Samsung SSD. Fedora 22 Workstation 64bit is installed. As this machine will start out as a means to record v...

Re: Tell me about KXStudio......

Keeping separate linux varieties on different external usb drives, is the safest way to learn linux audio. I would check out ccrma, a repository for fedora based musicians that will supply a lot of audio software, and an excellent kernel. Test some bootable live dvds thoroughly, so you can get real...

Re: Tell me about KXStudio......

I think you should see KXStudio as an addon to an Ubunut-Distro. I don't think it will work in fedora. The iso is a KDE-Ubunut with all KXStudio-Repos already installed. I have it installed on a memory stick, so I can use it from there. I'll be awhile getting the terminology down. But, this is the ...

Tell me about KXStudio......

I downloaded the ISO file from the KXStudio site, and imaged it to a DVD. Being a total novice in any form of Linux, and Fedora being the one that I've chosen, is this piece of software something that I can install as an app on my Fedora 22? Or, must it be a stand-alone OS? I've become some disencha...

Re: Akai Professional EIE....

If you don't succeed, you might consider selling or trading the interface. I won't rule that out. I have a tendency to obsess over problems, 'til I find a solution. In this case, I'm too much of a Linux novice to do it all. So, I depend on the people who know. I really didn't buy for use with Linux...

Re: Hello, from Roxboro, N.Carolina.............

folderol - After reading your intro, I updated my profile. Never took the opportunity to pursue tube electronics. I was drafted into the Army in '72, and had the chance to go that route. Being young and with no direction, I took the high tech route of missle systems. No tubes there. I wanted to fol...

Re: Akai Professional EIE....

I don't think the device you have is compatible with Linux. The link you provided is an experimental driver, but it states on the site that it is not ready for use. The last commit was over a year ago, so odds are the project has been abandoned. It's a shame Akai didn't use class compliant drivers ...

Welcome to the forum! ...a Win-10 free zone http://libremusicproduction.com/ Probably look at the first article, and study the third article about jackd, it will detail making the audio i/o connections between hardware and software. You might want to use amsynth in your tests, as it is available in...
