Re: Name for effect that tames loud highs?

It sounds like you're essentially describing a Dynamic EQ/Multi-band Compressor but perhaps ones that are more intelligent such as Soothe 2 & Gullfoss. I'm not sure exactly how those plugins work and they are slightly different to eachother but they are both dynamic EQ's at their core, just with...

How do you set custom pointer acceleration in Wayland?

Hey. I'm using a trackball on Nobara (KDE/Wayland) and would like to setup the custom acceleration profile which is apparently now available in libinput. The only GUI options I have though are 'Flat' & 'Adaptive'. Flat is fine for mouse use but not my trackball and Adaptive is not what I want. I...

Re: help needed, is my music repetative ?

Well good luck. You'll get there with practice :) One more thing - Here's the most useful bit of mixing advice I've ever heard that changed everything for me: Think about the arrangement in terms of whereabouts things are sitting in the frequency range. If you have multiple things playing in the sam...

I need some bad samples in need of cleanup..

Hey. I'm learning to clean up vocal (both speech & singing) & guitar audio samples so I'm looking for some to practice on. Do you have any audio you'd like me to cleanup for free or maybe you know where I can download some? Requirements for the audio If it's a vocal it must have at least som...

Re: Change to Linux - "ILok", "eLicenser" USB pens.

I think you made your mind up by the sounds of it and it probably was the best thing to do with your requirements, staying on Windows that is. However, let me offer a point of view that is less common on this forum.. I use Windows software on Linux for making music and I have been doing this success...

Re: help needed, is my music repetative ?

I had a look and listen at my track in LMMS. I noticed the main sound is made with 3 synths. If I mute one specific, it already sounds quite different, even though its still the same melody. :) I might also have to use the high pass filter even more / stronger. Yes, It's easy to keep thinking you m...

Re: help needed, is my music repetative ?

I get told the same thing about my music all the time. I can't really disagree with people because whenever I'm criticised - that's the main reason they give. Sometimes repetitiveness is not a bad thing though and also remember that when people aren't into a style of music they'll just say that it a...

Re: HDMI audio vs Audio interface for gaming

You could record some game intro music in audacity or timemachine, using both audio sources, import and compare the waveforms visually in audacity, and also compare the sound in some good headphones Earbuds are trickier to get precise results, as they move about, and are inserted without measuremen...

HDMI audio vs Audio interface for gaming

I use an Audient ID4 going out to my monitors for all sound on my pc which works well. However, I was just playing around with software (qpwgraph) that allows me to route audio and realised that I could actually route the GPU-HDMI audio output through my audio interface. This got me thinking - is th...

Re: Transition from Windows10 to Linux OS (as a normal, and as a musician/sound tech)

Doesn't Ableton work in Wine or Wine Staging? Ableton works with wine, but at least I could not get decent latency. And have asked everybody who runs windows daws with wine if they can run with decent latenly. And nobody has claimed that they can. So if latency on range 300ms is ok, then it is fine...

Re: Transition from Windows10 to Linux OS (as a normal, and as a musician/sound tech)

For me, I had to just do it and commit to it which worked out really nicely in the end. Life on Linux is also a lot easier these days and certainly so compared to some of the previous times I'd tried to switch but failed. I definitely had some struggles though.. Once you get into the Linux way of th...

Re: Flatpaks can access any directory without permission?

Flatpaks can have access to anything in your home directory structure but not your root structure. That's only if I give them permission to do so, right? Also, if I give a Flatpak access to a folder, can it then also access everything in all of the parent directories of that folder?; For example, i...

Re: Flatpaks can access any directory without permission?

Yeh I know about Firejail but at the moment I want to use Flatpak.

Thanks for the tip. That shouldn't be necessary with the Flatpak version though as things are meant to be contained. But as far as I can tell, this doesn't seem to be a sandbox..

Re: Studio monitors

Well that's good :) It's just a preset that comes built in with Span. It's just like a preset that any other type of plugin would have - nothing special. You've used presets before, right? But yeh, when you load Span I'm sure you'll find it. I think the full name is 'Stereo Mastering'. I used to lov...
