Re: Songs By DLP
I always appreciate how you share knowledge and wisdom, and refrain from tomfoolery and pointless discussion. Long ago I discovered that chasing polemics typically led nowhere useful. I've tried to avoid insistence on a point of view, it never seemed the right way to build a diverse and vital commu...

Re: Songs By DLP
I think my favorite is Tell Me Again, it made me think of Johnny Cash. Funny you should mention Johnny Cash. I have a student who sings with the best baritone/bass voice, I've thought about asking him to try the song. I think the results might be very Cash-like. I feel like there's more of a story ...

Re: Songs By DLP
What a great music! I really like every song. Thank you ! "Drummer in a bluesband" :) My drummer is an old friend, I wrote the song for fun. He loves it. What does it mean, if a licence plate is orange? These days it's more likely to indicate that the car is from New York. But my song is ...

Songs By DLP
https://davidlphillips.bandcamp.com/album/songs-by-dlp Finally got around to releasing an album. Most of this stuff has been posted previously on various sites at various times but a couple things are relatively new. The quality of the tracks varies considerably, with some tracks in a completed stat...

Great source for worldwide shortwave radio broadcasts.
For hardcore VCV Rack users there is/was a module that connects to SDR hardware.

Re: Obituary thread for musicians
Did your band ever record any of your outings? This would've been a real special moment to have captured. No live recordings as far as I know. The group was popular locally, the club scene then was booming in Ohio. Drinking age was 18 in those days - anyone else remember low beer (aka three-two) ? ...

Re: Obituary thread for musicians
Pharoah Sanders Very sad. I got to know him in Cleveland during 1970-1971, he was doing a residency at Case-Western Reserve. A wonderful man and musician. A side note: I was in a rock band in the late 60s that played a pretty loose rendition of The Creator Has A Master Plan. It didn't go over well ...

Re: What makes Jazz, jazz
re: the OP's question, IIRC it was Bubber Miley who said: If it ain't got swing, it ain't worth playin', if it ain't got gutbucket, it ain't worth listening to. Fats Waller's famous remark gets to the point: If you don't know what it is, don't mess with it. And of course, there's Zappa's humorous as...

Re: PC build
Avoid nvidia graphics. Amen to that. I recently discovered that my old nVidia-based card was simply not going to work with a system upgrade to Ubuntu 20.04. Alas, fanless video cards fall into the low to lower-middle ranks. Meaning that I was looking at a new video card and I just didn't want to do...

Re: LinuxMusic.rocks
Very good work !
Thanks to this project I can now bring an end to linux-sound.org. The native VST/VSTi plugins page was the only section I updated, I think everything there is covered at linuxmusic.rocks so it's time to bid farewell to the old site.
Best regards,
Dave Phillips
