Sound in Firefox without Pulseaudio has always worked for me. Still does.
I don't want to be stubborn or pick up any fights over this. I'm just saying. FWIW.
AFAIK, Bluetooth doesn't work without Pulseaudio.

Re: Jack setup issueswith some software
I setup jack with QjackCTL, this works fine with Bitwig but I have to turn off Jack for any other audio (spotify, browser) to play. I'm not sure if this is a routing problem or something else. Why does anyone still use QjackCTL? Cadence is so much better. Just make sure you have the ALSA bridge run...

The Sound of Talk
Have you ever noticed how many ad/presentation videos for VST plugins are there on Youtube where someone keeps yapping away for many minutes on end and shower you with descriptions of all kinds and sizes of features but barely—if ever—give you the chance to HEAR what the plugin sounds like? I just n...

Personal taste is just why I don't like Ubuntu. No connection with the rest of the topic.
I still think that four months is fine. He can upgrade then or even a month later. No big deal. What else is he supposed to do until then?

Re: KXStudio --> to install or not to install? --> Better Options
April 2019 still gives you four months. Good enough for anyone to get started then upgrade when the new one comes.
I use plain Debian with KXStudio repositories and I don't even like Ubuntu, but it's just a matter of personal taste and I don't see any problem with support ending in April.

Re: What does the audio interdace do?
Someone please fix the topic title. It's bad for searches. Now, follow this algorithm: Are you going to record audio with microphones and/or external instruments? Yes. --> You need an audio interface. No, just MIDI sequences and software instruments (plugins). --> You don't need an audio interface. ...

Re: KXStudio --> to install or not to install? --> Better Options
I don't think there is anything better than KXStudio. You say you were very satisfied, so why not use it again? Because it's "old"? Come on. It's not Windows 95 we're talking about here. I use Debian current and I have many old packages, because Debian is conservative in that aspect. It's ...

Re: Jackd and Cadence setup Qs
Sorry, I don't understand what you mean. But I still recommend you install Catia. It will give you very visual and clear information on a lot of what is going on in relation to JACK.

Re: Backups
Are you writing to an NTFS file system from Linux? Is that considered stable now? I really don't know. Sounds dangerous.

Re: Backups
If anything happens to your working drive, the backup is a drop-in replacement. That is my approach too, though a little bit different. I divide the disk into partitions. One for the system and others for the data. I have multiple data partitions for historical reasons. There were times when I had ...

Re: Beginner question about KXStudio
If someone posts something that seems obvious, and readers don't wish to waste time sorting it out for them, they shouldn't. It requires no action at all, just don't reply to the post. However, taking time to call the person out is rude and pointless. I agree with this assessment wholeheartedly. It...

You're right. I read rghvdberg's reply too fast and didn't notice the site had been quoted. Sorry about that.

Re: Beginner question about KXStudio
A simple Google search should take you to the project's home page: https://kxstudio.linuxaudio.org which begins with the project's own description of itself: KXStudio is a collection of applications and plugins for professional audio production. KXStudio provides Debian and Ubuntu compatible reposit...

Re: FL Studio 20 available
I've ran it on 3.18, 3.19 & 3.20 without any major issues noticed so far. I installed it via Playonlinux also. Which version are you using? Staging 3.21.0. I get errors like this: 0042:err:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 0x1cd4b40 "?" wait timed out in thread 0042, blocked by...
