Re: The Wind and the Lake (classical / symphonic poem)

In the meanwhile, I've downloaded the BBC Symphony Orchestra Discover library by Spitfire Audio: a friend suggested it since it's free if you fill in a questionnaire. I haven't had the chance to start playing with it yet, even though if I suspect it will be much more CPU intensive than using VPO, s...

Re: The Wind and the Lake (classical / symphonic poem)

Now that I think about it, a MuseScore integration may not be enough for us Linux users, if they don't make NotePerformer work on Linux too. That is what I fear. But I don't know for sure. When I'll run MuseScore 4 natively on Linux, it might be possible to run NotePerformer via Wine, no? Just in t...

Re: The Wind and the Lake (classical / symphonic poem)

Thanks! Just this morning I've found out MuseScore is revamping their software, and v4 will integrate much better with external VSTs and stuff like that. They explicitly mentioned NotePerformer, which I've been intrigued by for a long time: apparently they manage to get reasonably good sounding res...

Thanks, Michael!

That was a good tip. I've been indeed able to reach him there.

Re: sfizz

I've e-mailed Paul two weeks ago about a problem I have with sfizz but haven't got an answer.

Does anyone know what's the best way to get in contact with him?

Re: Another NOOB here....

The steps outlined by khz should work for Linux-native plugins. To clarify, if your home directory is /home/charlie, then you want to create these hidden directories: /home/charlie/.lv2/ /home/charlie/.vst/ /home/charlie/.vst3/ Put the plugins into the corresponding directories, restart your DAW an...

Re: AV Linux 2020.1.14 Release Candidate for testing only

Hi buonamorte.records,

since my next PC (which I will build in the coming days) will also have a NVMe SSD as system drive, I am very interested how it turned out.

Re: audio PC build: Ryzen 3200G vs. i3-8100/9100

Thanks for tuning in, but I've already ordered in the meantime.

I can imagine though that in a few years when I want a new CPU I might go for an AMD. They seem to keep getting better and better (and cheaper anyway which is always nice).

Re: audio PC build: Ryzen 3200G vs. i3-8100/9100

Well, while I am quite drawn to the Ryzen, it will become after all an Intel i3-9100.

It's just stronger in terms of single core performance and latencies and no longer that much more expensive than the 3200G as it was a while ago. That's what it comes down to.

Re: audio PC build: Ryzen 3200G vs. i3-8100/9100

I would think the Ryzen 3200G is a good choice. Indeed, that's why I put it on the shortlist. But on the other hand I've read also not so nice things about it. Problems with the Vega 8 driver on the newer kernels, video encoding problems and the need to deactivate virtualization to make it run smoo...

audio PC build: Ryzen 3200G vs. i3-8100/9100

I'm about to build a new PC for audio production (and general use as well). Since I am on a budget, my CPU choice comes down to: AMD Ryzen 3 3200G or Intel i3-9100 (or i3-8100) I'll be running Ubuntu 20.04. Which one is preferable? Price difference is not really a factor, because while the Intel is ...

I managed to install wine-staging.

Sforzando GUI is now working. I tried the VPO oboe sample in sforzando -> it does loop.

Re: SFZ Player for Linux

I didn't have Wine installed before, it got automatically installed when I installed the Carla-Bridges. Version is Wine (development version) 3.6-1 from the Bionic repos. (As I wrote before I am on Ubuntu Studio 18.04 with backports PPA). So, would I have to uninstall existing Wine versions first an...
