Theoretical discussion of deep sampling

Assume a looping sample of a sampled instrument, a tuba in this example. A) The periodic wave shape at low A (A1) will differ from the wave shape at C4. B) Additionally, the wave shape varies within the A1 sample as the flow pressure and therefore rate from the tubist's lungs through the instrument ...

Re: Linux DAWs - are there any?

I was duly impressed and purchased Bitwig. Thanks.

Now I'm trying to assemble a collection of sample-based ADSR instruments... Fun stuff..

Re: Editable piano roll for easier microtonal midi?

It is really good. I was suffiently impressed with the demo to purchase the full version, in fact. It is the ONLY DAW on Linux that isn't just another brainless drum loop mixer. It actually has provision for expression and phrasing, a good tool for the thoughtful musician. It's the closest thing to ...

Re: how do you compose your songs?

Well, an important distinction is in order. A "song" is a "piece" of music with words. For some of us, myself included, the music comes to me in my head, ocassional even in dreams. If I don't write it down - even a measure or two on a scrap of paper for later - it will be lost, b...

Re: Useful SFZ tools

The key sticking point right now is the need for orchestral instruments. Drums seem very well covered. On CuBASE there was a neat llittle SFZ player by Cakewalk,...

Thank you. I've been looking for MIDI editing that is "really good" on Linux for some time now...

Re: Linux DAWs - are there any?

Another very important feature is a tempo lane, for accel, ritard, fermata... Payware solutions are fine; I just want to compose again. So * Takes a MIDI file as its input (does not need to record MIDI; that's handled elsewhere); * Provision for editing and instrumenting the MIDI. * Control lanes fo...

Linux DAWs - are there any?

Please accept my apologies if this is an inapproproiate spot for this particular topic posting. I am looking for input of available software suitable for assembling, from scores output to MIDI, high-quality, mastered recordings. This is the level of quality I'm looking for (from work I did a few yea...
