Re: Geekos DAW (libre music-making repository for openSUSE)

OMG, does this mean I will have LMMS with Carla on openSUSE ? :D I have had so many issues with both, because they weren't compiled right. No wine support to name one thing. :) I am currently working on a boogy woogy track. The start is already there. https://soundcloud.com/user586365033/boogiewoog...

Re: Need some help - Linux distros

For openSUSE I always use the torrent file.

Bit torrent is made for distributing Linux Distro's, so I like to use it once in a while for what it was made to do.

Re: Dig This -Trying to make house, but feels like I am failing

If I recall right, I had an issue with XMMS which I was using before QMMP, also with a winamp skin. I am starting to become more happy with my track. Added another vocal sample, which seems to work well in hiding the track is repetitive. Also changed the loop a little bit.The loop has now 2 small pa...

Re: What preference do you have for DAWs?

I use LMMS, one of its limitation that it can't record live music, is not relevant for me. Maybe one day I will run into issues that only using a better daw can solve, but for now my skill level is much more the limiting factor then LMMS. Few years back, when I released my first track, people asked ...

Re: Carla + Fedora = no love?

One reason , why I would like to use Carla, is that lmms does not support Linux vst.

Vestige is only for windows vst.

So no Amsynth for example in LMMS. :(

Gonna read that topic now. :)

Re: Dig This -Trying to make house, but feels like I am failing

How to use a spectrum analyser ? What I mean is off course how to fix a lack of any freqencies, or do I just need to an instrument that does this? :? I use easy Q on the master channel, buy the lack of frequencies around 1 - 4 K is way to big, to equalize out. When I attempt this, it started ...

Re: Dig This -Trying to make house, but feels like I am failing

Gonna try this tutorial for side chaining.

A vid from one of the LMMS devs.

Re: Carla + Fedora = no love?

I am on openSUSE, and when I asked around on the suse forum about Carla, one person had compiled Carla himself. He said is was not hard, you only needed allot of dev files. When I tried the appimage version of LMMS with the Carla ( how call it ? ) self contained binary version, it did not work. The ...

Re: Dig This -Trying to make house, but feels like I am failing

Added a saturator to the vocal sample, and shortened the note a bit. ( dig it ) The organ is next, I had with a 10 band EQ removed the low end, and undid that. Also had added calf reverb, which also can be responsible for the sound getting thinner. Next I will try saturation on the organ , but think...

Re: Dig This -Trying to make house, but feels like I am failing

After thinking about the feedback and having a look, I found that some moron had put reverb on the hi-hat and not a little. When I removed the reverb and changed mostly the hold of the envelop, instant progress, now it starts to sound as a house hi-hat. I also took down release and decay though. Lmm...

Re: Dig This -Trying to make house, but feels like I am failing

Some things that could be improved imo: -The HiHat is too long and (much) too loud, it should be snappier. You can achieve this by shortening the decay time. - The Piano needs a bit more warmth (lower freqs) and it doesn't sound well integrated in the mix. Maybe also add a bit more reverb here. - V...

Re: Dig This -Trying to make house, but feels like I am failing

It's pretty good! I think you've got all the right elements but need to work on the mix. Mostly, the drums need to sound a bit more aggressive. They should dominate the song. Right now, the organ stabs dominate. I would try and find a better harmony between the kick/snare/hat then add the other ele...

Re: Dig This -Trying to make house, but feels like I am failing

Thank you, but its not white noise. Its a default hi hat from LMMS. ( from the folder misc hats) And this house mix is an example on why I used it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4tsZ0GgTjyQ Don't know if its added because its a mix, but there are more mixes from this guy, they all seem to have th...
