Switch away from Ubuntu the corporate monolith entirely. Switch to Debian, and use a light desktop - after all, one can easily install a heavier one if his system can handle it.

Better yet, merge into AVLinux, so GMaq isn't so overworked.

If the choice is just between those two distros, AVLinux wins in my opinion.

KXStudio doesn't add anything, and has made extremely bad design decisions (like being based on KDE). AVLinux is better suited for music production, in my opinion.

But that's just my opinion.

Studio 13.37 v2 users can get the upgrade here.

Previous versions of Studio 13.37 used IceWM for its window manager, but in V2 that was replaced with Openbox/LXpanel, with Glx-dock instead of wbar. Studio 13.37 doesn't actually come with REAPER, because it doesn't come with any proprietary music apps. However, it does come with a script that downloads and installs REAPER.
