Re: Jack and Carla?

Did you upgrade anything? What distro are you using? Do you usually start jack via Qjackctl? Try starting Jack this way:

Code: Select all

jackd -d alsa --device hw:0

Or if you have two sound cars the same command with hw:1 instead of hw:0.

Re: Difference between jackd and jackdbus

If jackdbus is running the JACK server can be started with jack_control start Wow! Thanks. So indeed, jackd != jack server. Still difficult to exactly understand the difference between jackd and jackdbus . The way I see it now it that their process can run together. Jackd is simply used to start th...

Re: Problem when I load plugins NadIr and Emissary with linvst

I'd give Emissary a try (never heard of those plugins before) but they don't seem to have any demo. By the way, there's a section of Linux Musicians dedicated to running non-linux software. link to download Emissary, NadIR and Lepoul plugins https://drive.google.com/file/d/102BZuAU4ZeTXMsR17XVzyaci...

There's no Wine staging in Ubuntu/Mint.

Re: Problem when I load plugins NadIr and Emissary

Can you determine the Carla version that you installed/use? I can choose between 2 versions (both from KXStudio): Carla (ver. 2:2.0.0+git) or Carla-git (ver. 2:2.1~alpha). The one I've got installed is the Alpha.

Re: Difference between jackd and jackdbus

both jackd and jackdbus implement a jack server. one is started via command-line and having it running means the jack server is also running - jackd the other is a user service that can stop/start the jack server dynamically - jackdbus jackd != jack server. jackdbus can be always running because it...

Re: Difference between jackd and jackdbus

I suppose to understand it it's helpful to know the difference between a daemon and D-bus. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/D-Bus If you go to the 'Overview' section there is a helpful diagram. Thanks for that link. So do I understand correctly that Jacks' daemon is the process and that JackDBus is ...

Re: Carla: 'PyQt5' missing?

I just now tried some other VST's in Carla and they all worked perfectly (including showing their GUI's). So overall it's a great program! :D Has LinVST some options that Carla doesn't (and does it run on a 32-bit system)? See my post here about my experiences w/ LinVST, Carla etc. Summary for LinV...

LinMusGuy wrote:It works! :D

Except that some nice plugins don't show their GUI in Carla... :( Is there a solution for that problem?

Depends on the VST. Some work, some don't. Some might work better w/ LinVST than w/ Carla. Which VST does not show it's GUI?

Re: Problem when I load plugins NadIr and Emissary

If you use Carla then you do not need to "convert" (i.e. bridge) the plugins w/ LinVST. One uses one or the other. Maybe the plugins from the Emissary company do not work in Linux. Try to load them in Carla without Reaper and see what happens. Tip: a screenshot may come in handy. I...

I wanted to ask exactly the same question: "What's the difference between jackd and jackdbus ". I don't know if necro-bumping is better than starting a double post... Anyway, here goes. I still do not exactly understand what the difference between jackd and jackdbus is. I thought that jac...

Re: Carla: 'PyQt5' missing?

I think that the developer of KXStudio/Carla will reply himself. But for now: what version of Mint are you using (i.e. on what Ubuntu version is it based?). Are you using the KXStudio repository? What version of Carla are you using (i.e. the git or the alpha version)? There are recent developments i...

Re: first factors for audio interface

If you really do not want to use the soundcard from your computer then look for a USB audio device that is "class compliant". For most audio devices that work in MacOS the manufacturer will say that in MacOS no drivers are needed because the device is class compliant. That means that the c...

Re: USB Audio Interface JACK Xruns on Linux but not on Windows

I just did a fresh install of manjaro, added all the settings and tweaks that I have learned during this process, and still I get the infamous single periodic xrun with the exact same period as with Mint. At this point I guess it is just a hardware compatibility issue. Sooner or later I will upgrad...
