Re: Releasing the "source code" of music

FaTony- I think the way you're going about releasing your project files is a good thing for this community. I hope to follow your example once I get around to finalizing any of the foss-based music I've been experimenting with. :)

cheers.

Re: My Etudes

It is called counterpoint. When I was a medical college student, I've been told about it at musical theory lessons. You may call it counterpoint, I chose otherwise as to not be conflated with certain baroque species of counterpoint. Common orchestration can have up to three counterpoints along with...

Re: What was Linux audio like in 1998 ?

I remember attempting to use Jazz++, early versions of Rosegarden, SoundTracker... support for audio and midi interfaces was dysmal, which ended up being the reason I gave up on Linux at the time. I'm happy to find things are much better now :)

Re: My Etudes

I listened to most of these today while I was doing some light reading. I think you're getting some good sounds out of your setup and they're nicely balanced. What I would work on next if I were you, is employing more counter-melodies. Usually you only have one melody going on at a time which is fin...

Re: Basic Jack routing to USB Midi Interface Midi OUT

Rather than rely on arguments ad verecundiam, it would be interesting to test this out. I'm hardly the only person with both Firewire and USB MIDI devices so there exists overlap between ALSA MIDI and JACK MIDI which can be qualitatively compared, thusly one can be favored over the other. Perhaps cr...

Re: Basic Jack routing to USB Midi Interface Midi OUT

Firewire MIDI devices are very rare and usually expensive, hardly mainstream. All mainstream MIDI devices are USB these days, and have been for the last 15 years. If you restrict the definition to controllers then yes, but don't forget most Firewire audio interfaces have MIDI in/out on them. Which ...

some of my ongoing diy projects

Just some stuff I've been tinkering with... - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ogXSDtB94no Taking a keybed from a broken 80s electric piano and turning it into a MIDI controller via a Teensy3.1 . I created a JACK MIDI source that is feeding ZynAddSubFX. Next step: velocity sensitivity. - https://www....

Hello from Southern California

Hi! Longtime interest in Linux and music production but only combining the two fairly recently. Got Ubuntu running on a 2010 Macbook Pro with JACK thru a Focusrie Saffire Pro24 (have to disable wifi, tho). Enjoying playing around with capable software like Ardour, Calf suite, ZynAddSubFX, Guitarix, ...
