Re: [Solved] MSI B550 Pro BIOS Update caused xruns

I updated my BIOS and this led to getting an xrun about every ten minutes. There is some controversy about the BIOS for this motherboard, and I rolled the BIOS back to a version before the issues started. The xruns stopped. I left the machine on overnight, and came back in the morning to find zero ...

Re: SSL Big6 routing works in Ubuntu Studio but not AV Linux

Compare the version of ALSA and compile/install a later version if the version on AV Linux is older than on Ubuntu.
Same with jack.

Morlock was also spelled incorrectly, I must be getting old.

You spelled "musician" incorrectly.

Re: pipewire BS

I don't use Arch so don't know if there are particular idiosyncracies on there that need to be dealt with (I imagine there would be, like on any distro) and what would have to be done to optimise things. What I can tell you is that it works more or less troublefree for me (browsing, consumer audio, ...

Re: JACK Does Not Detect Microphone On AV Linux

Sadly, asbak thinks everyone else is as Linux-challenged as he is. Setting up Linux audio certainly isn't impossible, and I don't live in a basement. My systems work fine. I bought a new laptop and yes there were some issues which turned out to be hardware, not software related and which were solve...

Re: [Solved] Pipewire interfering with JACK

Actually two services are run : pipewire.socket and wireplumber.service . Both are running realtime threads. You wouldn't think that would be a problem either, but it is. It's not a problem unless you're a failed magician. Despite what tools like asbak say, I go on the premise that if the DSP load ...

Re: pulseaudio to Pipewire - Ubuntu Studio 22.04

Pipewire works OK (for my purposes at least) once it has been set up and configured for my circumstances & hardware. There are many tutorials out there on setting up Pipewire. All of them are in varying stages of deprecation, sub-optimal or incomplete. Audio on Linux is a moving target. It's com...

Re: JACK Does Not Detect Microphone On AV Linux

So I have the same bafflement as before. Everyone talks about how "powerful" JACK is and how it's "so good at routing" but It can't even record from more than one microphone at a time? I feel like a powerful audio routing system should be able to route inputs from multiple piece...

Full support for esteemed colleague GuntherT, a hero of our times for having the courage to say what had to be said a long time ago already.

There has been way too much crazy talk from the bad aspiring AI. Please dial down that schizo nutzi noise.

Oh don't misunderstand, even though it's about you there's no requirement for you to look at it.

Re: 2 interfaces + jack

Typical users won't need to switch. In some cases firewire audio FFADO drivers work better than ALSA. (It also kinda depends on the hw, there is no one size fits all here). In such cases pipewire is not ideal because it doesn't work with the FFADO drivers and in such cases one would be better off ru...

yeah, switching from jack to pipewire and back, that sounds interesting.
Ok, interesting is the new boring.
Sounds like another misleading idea.

Re: 2 interfaces + jack

It's simple to set up pipewire in OS's such as *Ubuntu 22 or related flavors, probably also (no I haven't tried to myself) on Arch & Centos. Once one knows how to, of course. *I'm not suggesting to switch to Ubuntu at all, only pointing out that it's simple to configure pipewire on Ubuntu, in ca...

Re: 2 interfaces, 2 jackd, couple them

Depending on OS, OS version, version of PW etc it can be tricky and I'm not aware of any good documentation on how to get it to work well. Nevertheless, after weeks of messing around I got it to the point where it's very usable now. It's just a pity I had to waste so much time to get to that point. ...
