Re: Roland Rubix sound cards

...the slightly more aggravating side of this 'feature' is that after ten hours the rubix44 goes to sleep and computer activity won't wake it. This means your jack autostart will fail. The solution is that you have to power off / power on using the poorly located manual switch. And take jack out of ...

Re: Roland Rubix sound cards

I just got a rubix44 and it works fine on linux. All switches hardware. Coming up as standard audio device and I seem to have all possible sample rates and resolutions available. Not much to report yet except one minor annoyance: it will stay awake for 10 hours after the computer turns off with a br...

Re: native VST synths for Linux ? UPDATE 6/6

Hi all

I just wanted to drop in a note to say the Virmidi steps outlined in this thread now work for me with Bitwig 1.0.15.

I don't know what the problem was but the changelog for BWS 1.0.15 says "FIXED Improved Linux MIDI support - Virtual MIDI now works."

all the best
Graham

Re: native VST synths for Linux ? UPDATE 6/6

yeah I tried that one StudioDave.

I guess the fact I've done 2 major upgrades, rather than reinstall, might explain my different result. Some more specific explanation eludes me.

Thanks for your time and don't let it tax your peace of mind too much!

Re: native VST synths for Linux ? UPDATE 6/6

Thanks for your help StudioDave and Drumfix. I unplugged other midi devices. cat /proc/asounds/cards now provides: 0 [Audigy2 ]: Audigy2 - SB Audigy 2 ZS [SB0350] SB Audigy 2 ZS [SB0350] (rev.4, serial:0x20021102) at 0xc000, irq 20 1 [VirMIDI ]: VirMIDI - VirMIDI Virtual MIDI Card 1 On the Alsa conn...

Re: native VST synths for Linux ? UPDATE 6/6

I tried all those blank positions too drumfix. I will at least have a go at simplifying the problem by unplugging hardware, without needing to mess with the software side, which should mean I can use the script in its original form. It seems unlikely the solution is so close at this stage but someth...

Re: native VST synths for Linux ? UPDATE 6/6

Just noticing some things I missed in this thread and want to apologise for any confusion caused. I did mean pulseaudio when I said portaudio.

Re: native VST synths for Linux ? UPDATE 6/6

Thanks - I'll try that and see what happens.

Bitwig sees the E-mu Midi/usb bridge and the Alias-8 and names them with two midi ports listed for each. The Alias-8 has a fantastic controller script and I get function from my keyboard, through the E-mu, using the Generic keyboard controller script.

Re: native VST synths for Linux ? UPDATE 6/6

I spent a bit of time with this last night and didn't get anywhere with my idea of picking the different blank spots. This concerns me that maybe patching and recompiling won't solve my problem. So I went looking around for other problems I could be having but I didn't really get anywhere. Anyway I ...

Re: native VST synths for Linux ? UPDATE 6/6

It sounds like that was the advice I needed drumfix; and some new linux challenges for me there. Many thanks for throwing that in. It does make sense of my failure to get this working. I think patching and recompiling may be more learning that I wanted in one grab but I will look into it. The other ...

Re: native VST synths for Linux ? UPDATE 6/6

GG Maybe I'm not understanding your suggestion properly. Here's what I did. Generated a new UUID on the link you gave. Pasted it into the script virmidi.control.js replacing what looks like the current UUID in the top line. Left my other changes intact "Virmidi 3:0" etc. as documented abov...

Re: native VST synths for Linux ? UPDATE 6/6

Thanks - I'll try that with UUID and let you know if I have a breakthrough.

bitwig has worked very well without portaudio since I started using the 1.0.9 version. I think your understanding may be from early releases.

Re: native VST synths for Linux ? UPDATE 6/6

In case I am in some way being stupid I will also add the only way I stepped out of the step-by-step I can think of. I changed the control script in the following lines: host.addDeviceNameBasedDiscoveryPair(["Virtual Raw MIDI 3-0"], ["Virtual Raw MIDI 3-0"]); host.addDeviceNameBa...

Re: native VST synths for Linux ? UPDATE 6/6

Thanks for the step by step StudioDave but I had no luck. Looks like our jack version were similar and I had already dumped a2jmidid as it conflicted with Bitwig. jackdmp 1.9.10 Copyright 2001-2005 Paul Davis and others. Copyright 2004-2014 Grame. jackdmp comes with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY This is fr...

Re: native VST synths for Linux ? UPDATE 6/6

Arr! Evidence someone else succeeded where I failed. I have pretty much tried every combination I can think of in terms of Jack2 configurations, Alsa and midi combinations etc. I exhausted all the existing google-able threads and info on this topic. I can get all the the devices to show up: Virmidi ...
