Re: Folkpop and other experiments from Chile and Mexico

The ska 'Lxs frágiles después' is great fun. Nice to hear some horns. We had a strong ska scene here when my kids were teens, hope it comes back and stays alive! It's a pretty cheery genre. Music can make us oldsters feel younger 8) You might enjoy the ProteusVX plugin, if you get wine, Reaper, and ...

Re: My (aka Ben Enkindle) newest trance release, plus other electronic experiments

I like how these songs expand as they go, with lots of energy and surprises. The sound choices are fine, quite evocative, and very guitar-practice friendly. There's enough going on in each song, without pointless distractions 'just because'. Four down, and will hear the rest soon...

Re: Another dimension room (album of guitar instrumental music)

These songs have nice bending and blending of sounds, and solid themes that don't wander. The various styles and tonalities added within songs are tastefully done, and don't segregate the music into sections, the main theme is enhanced, and the stories unfold. I would modify the intro to the first s...

Re: Cleopatra (EP)

While listening, this seemed orchestral and cinematic. The rock elements worked well, and didn't seem out of place to me. I imagine the process of taking an idea to various concepts, to rough drafts, and on to finished works, Is a combo of hard work applied to giftedness, or at least strong passions...

Re: AV Linux MX Edition 23.2 ISO update released!

I don't have much space on my internal drives. [/quote] Hi, lots of free contiguous disk space should be a priority, as lots of audio software needs it to run efficiently or properly, and so does the OS. Plus your spinning drives will last longer not having to bounce around in search of epmpty parki...

Re: Dynebolic returns from hibernation

I used dynebolic a lot, still have a CD on a spindle somewhere. I think it had zynaddsubfx and hydrogen, but it's been awhile. I Also used Fedora CCRMA, Suse Jacklab, with the innovative wineasio they came up with, and Caldera, which I think also went into the Suse enclave. Maybe Jaromil will post a...

Re: Please, help me to load windows VST on linux Reaper and Ubuntu Studio 23.0

I installed Ubuntu Studio 23.10... Please, point me in the right direction Thanks Hi, the AVLinux distro comes with wine and yabridge ready to go, and also has a Reaper demo installed, so just copy over or install some plugins, and tell yabridge where they are in your .wine folder: For example, cre...

Re: Did I see an Atari, with Jean Michel Jarre live ?

Atari has good midi spec because good chips are on the motherboard, rather than data bussed to some interface. Here is a recent discussion that goes into some detail about midi jitter, PPQN, timing, swing, and feel, and how they relate to good music. Lots of new and old hardware/software solutions a...

Re: How Long Does It Take To Learn The Guitar?

@ Gmaq: This interview of a pair of guitar legends has some interesting insights, that I think concur with some of your sentiments. https://youtu.be/_1bkZIDuGBU My goals are to create music that some people would want to hear multiple times, or that might at least stir the pot for them, to experimen...

Linux user got Ableton running in linux, made a video

The video is in German, and a KVR member had success by following the video. But the terminal commands are in Englsh. Installing several vcruns and sundries with winetricks seems to have turned the key. They are shown in a terminal just after the 5 minute mark of the 14 minute video. https://youtu.b...

Also, issue 323 of ComputerMusicMagazine has that, so you can use their 'back issue' service to access the download version of that issue, or a hard-copy with dvd, if still available. The Bitwig effects section is handy, with drag & drop horizontal chains easy to test and save.. Combined with th...

Re: Status of WineASIO on AVL-MXE

I'm not sure, but I think wineasio needs a code maintainer to keep it up to date with current distros and latest wine releases. It is still useful, even important for a few cool softwares. But using an extra slightly older distro on an external drive isn't bad luck. Can also be helpful if one wants ...

Re: Professional Linux Audio Users, How Did You Do It?

I switched to Linux about 4 months ago and the last piece of the puzzle is settling my music production workflow. Any tips are welcome! EDIT, I'm really enjoying your music! Audio production is not a good religion, or a popular team sport. Those using it in those ways will miss much of the joy in c...

Re: The Elder Brothers - "Autumn" released!

Been busy de-stressing my work area and sleep cycles, minimizing cables, maximizing connected gear, and gathering music with potential to be heard on the streets. That George Benson interview was inspirational. Tough decisions ahead  Found an unused 500 gig drive, so have room for the next AVL...
