Re: Ubuntu Studio 19.04 - tried to upgrade and have lost JACK, Ardour, Cadence amongst others

After backing up your home and opt folders, do a new install of 19.10, copy over what you can, and reinstall the rest. You'll save time, saniity, and have a fresh improved system. If you have or can access a windows setup, an app call rufous will put a linux iso in bootable condition on a usb stick,...

Re: Put a distro in your distro, to expand possibilities like vst3

Reading each license.txt is good luck. Podolski is free TripleCheese is free Zebralette is free, it is installed when you install the Zebra2 demo Beatzille and BazilleCM are available as part of Beat Magazine, and ComputerMusicMagazine content, Check the related EULA texts for requirements to redist...

Nice video! In case anyone missed it, the latest linux build of Podolski now has
tagged presets, and the latest Diva has been greatly optimized for cpu effciencies.

Re: xruns(this discussion is not for smart ass remarks, it's to help each other)

In rare cases, software doesn't handle cpu multi-core/multi-thread properly. My temptation is to max out all the priorities for audio, use all the cores/threads available to process it, and then some OS call in the shadows gets short shrift and causes a problem. So in qjackctl, my priority is 70, a ...

Re: Windows VST in 2020?

linux reaper 5x or 6x with linvst wrapper doing what airwave did Is linux reaper stable and 100% functional? In my experience, it is stable, but not 100% of the accessory apps and plugins have been ported. The linux-reaper forum has a topic to report errors encountered, and the dev treats the linux...

Re: Windows VST in 2020?

Google searches should provide many specifcs I use wine-staging 4.5 with linvst from git circa January 2019. I value a stable system and do not update much regarding audio. No adventures in upgrading. All adventures are in music creation. Cheers. Extremely well said! I have two installs that stoppe...

AVL discs among the spindles
Keep that firewood dry 8)

Re: Windows VST in 2020?

I think Airwave was created for the authors use mainly, and when in useful shape, shared with everyone, but without a planned uptate strategy. Linvst dev has been sharing new versions and knowledge quite often https://github.com/osxmidi/LinVst https://github.com/osxmidi/LinVst/tree/master/Detailed-G...

wine-staging 5.x windows reaper 5x or 6x with wineasio linux reaper 5x or 6x with linvst wrapper doing what airwave did. (airwave may still work in many cases) Bitwig, Mixbus, and other daws may also work. Carla default settings might need some easy changes for windows plugin use. Google searches sh...

Beerhunter's wine-staging-melodyne-linvst video

Beerhunter from kvr, a long-time linux Bitwig user, made a video showing
the install of wine-staging 5.x, Melodyne, and the linvst
plugin wrapper!

Probably a good springboard for installing other windows apps
in linux 8)

Re: I need help installing wineasio on Ubuntu 19.10

Hi, wineasio can help when using standalone apps that don't get wrapped by the (great) linvst, and there will be a few plugins, and some new ones, which don't yet work with linvst, that may be desirable to use with typically, wine and windows reaper version, with wineasio as the asio driver. There a...

Re: Can somebody demystify JACK for me?

Maybe the first thing to determine is whether you really need JACK. Paul Davis (the original developer of JACK and the primary developer of Ardour) now recommends that people use Ardour5 with ALSA instead of JACK, unless there is a specific reason to use JACK. The short story about why you would us...

Re: Spitfire Audio free sample libraries

There are not a lot of licensing nightmares. And many of those that do exist are because of hardware mismatches, user performance errors, and user configuration follies. I've been pretty lucky on the hardware part, but have slow-danced with the other two a few times too many to have a decent resume'...

Re: Spitfire Audio free sample libraries

Anybody who wants Windows software to be ported to Linux should just open up their email client, write a big letter describing all the problems encountered when using WINE What problems? Properly coded software, that doesn't include some control-freak-calling-home code to authorize the product, wil...

Re: Spitfire Audio free sample libraries

GNU/Linux is still shockingly underestimated among audio software makers, and many of them still think there are zero pro audio users on this platform, so they clearly don't monitor any Linux forums. Pro devs know how many musicians on a given platform will spend $Hundreds of Dollar$ on a suite of ...
